One of my favourites is EVE Online. Not really the popular choice, but the dev team put a lot of effort into the back story with books and chronicles. They also worked in game to tie the weapons and items to the back story as well as the places you can fly to. I think for effort CCP get an A for it.

Third edition Forgotten Realms. Yea, I'm a huge nerd.

As far as computer games, it would have to be Mass Effect.

Falout, Mass Effect or Nirn (Elder Scrolls).

Dead Space as well.

And I like The World Ends With You, too.

Red Dead Redemption.

Has anyone brought up Thief? It's only really weak part was when Eidos tried to dumb it down for consoles with Deadly Shadows. There is a whole community of people who write levels (in the Dark Engine) and fan fictions.

In one of my favorite fan levels, you loose a bunch of your gear when you pack rips while scaling a wall and have to find replacements for much of your stuff and you end up "Blackjacking" guards with an iron skillet.
I've never actually played thief before but have always wanted to. You should read up on dishonoured made by people who worked on their and deus ex looks really really good :)

Kind of a cop-out, but since there are games to it... The Gundam universe. Either U.C., or C.E. Or whatever timeline Wing or G fit into.

The Halo universe, mainly because there's so much to it already, and it's the one I know the most about. Half-Life and Mass Effect are pretty damn close though.

Elder Scrolls has the most complex and artistic universe, with writers that realize what's really important in a fantasy world is wonder and escapism, not rivet-counting and encyclopedias.

And ignore everything you thought you saw in Oblivion, of course.

And Half-Life has a very limited universe that is really just some strong atmosphere created by the hints of effective storytelling. But what is there is a very interesting blending of the real world with scifi dystopia.

No, don't worry. I agree. Much better before they decided to kill of Tyr, Helm, and Mystra. And then only put Cyric under house arrest for causing the Spellplauge. Rather than doing the smart thing and just killing him and dividing up his portfolio among several weaker gods they could keep an eye on.

I really like the Fallout universe. War. War never changes. And neither does Fallout.

Star Wars. They need to get the games into the NJO era. Thats ripe for some massive destruction. Carpet bomb a planet with a Super Star destroyer without bland good/evil morality shoehorned in.

Old republic era is fine and all...but we all know how it turns out so any major good vs evil battle is largely pointless. Theres a special ambiguity about using characters from the movies and expanded universe not knowing their fate. See Chewbacca, God rest his fury soul.

Final Fantasy. I just love how they mix the past with the future and everything else. I imagine FF's settings would be a more likely reality in the distant universe as opposed to super advanced green aliens.

Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. Mainly for the movies, but there's also games so I will include them.

Maybe Halo too. I'm struggling to get into the Mass Effect universe since I find the gameplay terrible. But I'm sure I'd enjoy it too.

Probably Warcraft. I like how WoW gives you a look at what life in Azeroth is actually like, from the perspectives of the citizens of the world. I'd love to be an adventurer.

Dark Tower is cheating, you might as well say "ALL UNIVERSES"

There's something I want to say about this. Personally when it comes to the "Fictional Universe" term, I like to imagine all fiction exists in one universe. I mean think about it, Sorcery and Science advancing every 50 years.
