Timesplitters

Yeah, I'm cheating and saying the whole series instead of one game, and they are last-gen games, but I don't care. They're a lot better than most of the stuff out now.

Timesplitters forever!

Portal, Mass Effect 2, Modern Warfare, Fallout 3...

Those are probably my votes, off the top of my head.

Saints Row 2 is prob the most fun, but I dunno if that makes it "best."

I'm gonna go right out and say MW2. Though it pisses me of royally and sometime my controller get rage-launched across the room it is still the game I come back to week in week out for just one more round of Search and Destroy. $40 worth of add ons aside, I still feel I've got my moneys worth from it, and the 13 + days of online play time (so far) are evidence of that.

Resistance: Fall of Man. MY favorite FPS of all time, it immersed me like no other game has managed to.

BioShock, easily. Playing that game was unlike anything else I've ever experienced.

Handheld: Easily the best generation handhelds have ever had, psp and ds have so many good candidates...

Console/PC: Portal, Bayonetta or Sin and Punishment Star Successor

I can't narrow it to one so I'll go with best in genre.

FPS (single player): Bioshock

FPS (coop multiplayer): Borderlands

FPS (comp multiplayer): CoD 4

TPS: Mass Effect 2

Action/Adventure: Uncharted 2

Hack n' Slash: God of War III

Platforming: Super Mario Galaxy 2

wRPG: Fallout 3

jRPG: Tales of Vesperia

Fighting: Super Street Fighter 4

Puzzle: Portal

Handheld: Dragon Quest IX

Superhero: Batman Arkham Asylum

Open World/Sandbox: Red Dead Redemption

Horror/Thriller: Dead Space

Kids/Family: LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4

Arcade: Braid

Genre Defying: Heavy Rain

I know that's a crazy list but there is really no best game and even the titles that I've listed, all of which are superb, are still highly debatable.

EDIT: I don't play RTS, sports or music games so that's why they don't appear in the list. I also don't own a PSP so that's why the best game for the DS won for handheld by default.

Almost perfect. You just missed the legend category.

Oh no, get ready to put out the flames...
Anyway...

For me; Mass Effect 2, Halo 3, Halo ODST, Assassins Creed 2, and possibly Resonance of Fate, but I haven't beaten it yet. In fact, I've barely started it yet.

I would love to say Mass Effect 1 and 2, Fallout 3, Oblivion, or Dragon Age, but I played them all on PC. The game I had most fun with on my 360 when I had it was Halo 3.

touche friend, touche . . . but what about Beyond Good and Evil 2? That would have to be a contender and I think we should call the category "vaporware."
