Best game intro

I'm still saying Dawn of War as my favourite intro to a game I've played, personally.

Well it's definatly NOT MGS4 - Someone showed me it to impress me, however its waaaay too long

4 minutes is too long?
And no, the commercials involving the interview with David Hayter, etc. do not count, since that is technically the install for Act 1.

Edit: If you're talking the ENTIRE intro, up until the title of "MGS 4" is displayed on the screen, and not just the opening cinematic, then I follow up with: Kingdom Hearts 2. That technically counts as a 3 hour intro.

I liked Fallout 3, because it took its time to establish a story. Immersion was more important than laying down every fact you needed to know.

And I loved the intro to Twilight Princess. Very quiet and sweet, yet with an eerie undertone.

Hell yes. Nothing more intense than seeing a gang of guys gut-punch a nice-looking girl, then take her away, all while her man is chillin with his bro inside the garage where she gets jacked.

I class the first 20/30mins as an intro as it was broken up by different cutscenes - IE the one with the dude you buy the guns from...

...Meh I got bored after about 5 mins or so. May have just seemed longer.

Ever played Kingdom Hearts 2? That has an incredibly long intro.

I thought Bioshock had a really, really good intro that set the mood for the entire game while being genuinely terrifying. But I also think Zeno Clash deserves a mention: The game begins by showing you cuts from the major plot points, all of which happened in the past, then you wake up at the end of the boss battle where you have killed the Father-Mother, and must flee from the wrath of the Family. The game begins there. It's completely backwards and brilliantly executed.

So many good mentions so far! Mine that comes to mind is the intro to Chrono Cross. When I first plugged it in, music really set the mood for me and sucked me right in.

Metal gear solid 4,the damn music (the same piece that plays in the microwave tunnel)it`s so brilliant...

I'd have to go with this. The entire first mission is not just an intro but a great set-up for the rest of the story. Like the set-up to a great punchline.

Blizzard entertainment, by any account, are masters at making really nice looking cutscenes that make you want to play their games. The teaser trailers for Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 are also really awesome, and by any account will most likely be the intro scenes for the games.

Final Fantasy X (Probably the only time I've ever liked metal).

The part in Far Cry 2 where the Jackal is taunting you, I just thought he was an interesting villain (Too bad he was barely in that game).

I would have to agree with you there. IMO Blizzard do a fantastic job with their videos and cutscenes and the Warcraft/WoW ones are great. I can't recall the Diablo 2 one but I remember enjoying all those cutscenes for the Acts.

fadecy nails it; I remember back in 1998 when I had worked months for a good 3D card (a VooDoo 2 with 12 (count em, 12!) megs of memory. Even stuff that the gigabyte of memory on my current GPU spurts out on my sweet monitor today can't beat first seeing that intro on my 14 inch monitor...

Ehem, so yeah. Final Fantasy 7's intro and gameplay changed gaming forever for me.
