Mass Effect, because the first wall of text sets up the galaxy without stupid references throughout the whole game. It gets the history out of the way, so all that's left is the super cool movie-like story arc.

Battlefield 1942 complete kickass the music fits perfectly.

Super Smash Bros Melee, a little better than the first game's intro, and much better than Brawl's.

Ocarina of time. The wave of nostalgia when the first few piano notes hit home, unexplainable.

Without a doubt in my mind.
I dunno, the music didn't fit the middle part at all. It needed a good action theme. But to each his own.

Red Alert 2 had a very good intro. So did Fallout 3.
But the best intro ever (imo) is definitely the one from Warcraft III: The Reign of Chaos.
Hell, that's 2 intros, and both rocked.

Fallout 1 & 2, Final Fantasy X, and the World of Warcraft cinematics.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFiI3WRsnTo - Fallout 1, 1997
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKITNmzWzJY - Fallout 2, 1998

Especially fallout 2, now that's problably the greatest intro in gaming history, seriously. Fallout 3 was a shame to watch tho, pure copy without heart and soul.

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. There's something about seeing all the MK characters fighting that I really enjoy.

Also the best soundtrack ever.
Wait! Didn't one of the missiles struck the head of the statue of liberty or is it all in my head?
Yes, that happened. I couldn't find the full version of the intro though.

The one intro I always watched whenever I played the game, bar none:
Not to mention:

They're both great because they actually set up the plot but don't make any sense until after you've played the game. They also have great music.

This is one of the worst intro videos in my opinion:
You'd think that sword, that guy, those ruins, and that minotaur would be important to the game's story right? Well you would be wrong. I'm sure when the video was made they had some bearing on the plot but in the game that shipped they are totally meaningless. I just think that's hilarious.

As long as we're doing Kojima games:
Note that the damn thing is seven minutes long. Kojima doesn't believe in doing anything half-assed.

The best Megaten intro:
This is actually the second intro, you have to wait after the first to see it. I mostly like it for the music.

Here is another with good music:
Most Tales games begin with a generic jpop intro so I enjoyed that this one used a generic jrock song instead. :)

Okay I'll stop now.

Warhammer: Mark of Chaos

MAFIA game intro. Beautifull, the feeling of an epic movie.

PS : if Red Alert 2 and Dawn of War weren´t be said already, I would have named them.

I'm going to buck the trend (at least with the numbers) and go for Final Fantasy EIGHT (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q09quI356sQ) and Metal Gear Solid TWO (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifPZsRgJIXE)

Fantastic music, fantastic floating text, and the ever fantastic "In fair Verona"-style showing you the ending at the begining. Just to be smug. They can get away with spoiling their own story, they're THAT GOOD.

On that note, the original, and the best: Romeo+Juliet: (Blast, not on youtube. Just replay it in your heads.)
