Dont know (care) if this has been done before.

There have been some great intros to games over the years so I thought we could post our fav here.

Half Life 1 & 2 are the classics for me.

Best line ever to start a game:

"So wake up Mr Freeman, and smell the ashes."

Perfect way to set the scene without blatant exposition.

The right man in the wrong time can make all the difference.

Yeah, fortunately I know how to keep my game-geekism to myself! I just love the way he sneers over the line "smell the ashes."

And for endings (I know that wasn't asked), the end of Thief 3 is AMAZING, especially for anyone who played the first game.

I think FFVIII has one of the silliest intros I've ever seen in a game.. flash words in front of the screen that make very little sense, show scenes of characters that you don't know or care about, and show two guys in some All encompassing duel of the fates, only to find that they're sparring..

my opinion though, take it as such

my favorite game intro is PROBABLY Fallout 3... Just something about Ron Fuckmothering Perlman's Voice talking about how War never changes, and then.. You're born, from a first person perspective.. it's surreal, and it's definitely something I had never seen before.

I was going to say that.. it is one of my favorite FMV sequences in gaming history.

But Fallout 3 just has a better intro in general.

I've always been fond of the M.A.X. intro, watching that dude's brain get transplanted into a bleeding robot and launching off into deep space. The Earth 2150 intro also impressed me when I first saw it. The Evil Genius intro is simply funny, the Homeworld 2 one is epic. The Dawn of War one sums the game up perfectly, and the Arcanum intro is just beautiful.

Silent Hill 2, I remember, staring at the mirror for about 30 seconds. Wait has it started, is this the game? Brilliant.

I'm seeing a lot of love for Fallout 3. Is this a definite purchase?

I second FFX, FFX-2 (as much of a shambles as it is) and Fallout 3.

I also claim the opening movie to Oddworld: Abes Exodus. Then again the humour in those games was pretty class.

It's not a FMV but the intro of COD4 is epic as well.
