Super Metroid, Ocarina of Time, Super Mario World, Doom 3 and You Don't Know Jack. I can only remember these right now because they sucked me straight into the game except Doom 3, that just scared the shit out of me!

Onimusha 3 has a great intro, but I prefer this one from the japanese version of Onimusha 2:

Yeah.

The intro to Chrono Trigger was also very impressive for the time. Also, EVERYTHING about Hitman: Blood Money is impressive. It doesn't really have a proper "intro," but here's a short piece of it, anyway:

Oh, and I can't forget Contracts:

Finally, here's an intro from a game nobody else played:

out of hundereds of games ive played Dawn of war is still in the top slot for me. it just sets the perfet tone for the game to come.

also this isnt an intro but rather a trailor, but the second trailor for warhammer Mark of Chaos was kick ass (come to think of it most of the trailors for this game were good)

to bad that was the best part about the game

I still think all the WOW ones have been truly epic, and really draw you in...

If only they'd dared to make the upcoming Warcraft movie like that, by all means bring in some top level actors for voiceover work, but I can't see any amount of special effects handling all the different races as well as a fully CGI movie.

Yeah it wasn't a cinematic. You just traveled around the space station abit, walked out on mars to get to the otherside, then you hear a loud moan and many screams, you go back to check out whats going on and bam!

It really makes me sad when nobody ever mentions Warcraft 2 [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZU-n8UZM5Cc].

Fable 2's intro was both breathtaking and kinda funny with the bird crap... i liked how they had a slow motion view of perfectly rendered bird shit falling onto someone's head...

I love the intro of the 'Thief' series.
Also, the openings of 'Shadow of the Colossus', 'Parasite Eve', 'Resident Evil Outbreak', 'Final Fantasy VIII' and 'Xenosaga 2' are phantastic.

Honorable mentions go out to 'Anachronox'. It's not flashy and not prerendered but once I got to meet Sly Boots the universe surrounding him, I was hooked.

And does anyone remember 'Entomorph', 'Eye of the Beholder 2' and 'Gabriel Knight'? They're quite old, but still have somethin about them I miss in recent games.

What I like about the intro to Final Fantasy 7 is that for an RPG it is extremely short. It does a masterful job of setting the scene, and BANG, you're in the middle of a mission. Come to think of it, FF10 does a pretty good job of this too.
