The original Fallout had a better introduction movie, though. As the camera pans back, revealing the devastated world outside, you slowly realise the dissonance of the music. Along with the absolutely vicious satire on the television screen, it is, along with Half-Life 2, the very best introduction sequence I've ever seen in a computer game.

And that's even before it introduces Ron Perlman. The Fallout narration monologue was at least as good as the one in Fallout 3, and more memorable to boot.

This. The first Fallout intro was probably the second best I've ever seen, just because it had some humour along with a sense of horror sets a certain mood for the game. At least, that's what I've always thought. It's just so good.

And Half-Life 2 naturally. The excellent speech, along with the smooth transition from cut scene to gameplay and Combine make it the best thing ever made. Ever.

Fallout 1 & 3's opening sends shivers down my spine, there so good. I just think the way the narrator speak is fantastic and his speech is fantastic.

Half Life 1 & 2 are the classics for me.

Best line ever to start a game:

Perfect way to set the scene without blatant exposition.

Bear in mind that this game was made in 1991, and it predates Half-Life's melding of cinematics and gameplay by six years. Oh, and in the Hi res version it STILL looks fantastically stylish.
