Arkham Asylum has been the most complete gaming experience I've played on a console.

Morrowing on a PC.

Morrowing hit me harder as an overall experinece, so I'd say Morrowind. A very special game.

Oblivion, if we're going for "the decade".
If you mean without any mods whatsoever... I'm sorry, but no.
Worse...I'm basing my opinion off of the CONSOLE versions.

And I have the PC version, but haven't bothered with any mods outside of a Shivering Isles house and Deadly Reflexes.
What...?
No.. just no..
It's a broken game, that's barely functional in almost all aspects until modded.
There are FAR better games out there. i think you're just trolling.
I'm even sure I've seen you mention yourself it's shit without mods...

I agree with oblivion, The elder's scrolls have always been a milestone in gaming and so did Oblivion, there are better games yes but not more "revolutionary".
Yes... because Magic Carpet totally didn't practically invent and revolutionise gaming with the idea of "sandbox gaming" no... that was alll Oblivion. -.-
Seriously, name me ONE thing that Oblivion revolutionised. You can't.
The battle system's been done before, but much better, the plot made next to no sense, the scaling up of the enemies was beyond stupid. The quests were just rehashes of other ones we have seen in games. The first person rpg thing has been done several times before.
So... do tell, what if anything was so "revolutionary" about TES IV:Oblivion?
I've played Morrowind. Apart from the improved journal and quest markers in Oblivion, it barely improved on the previous game.

ummmmm, on reflection I shall pick The Orange Box (if I'm aloud). if not that then Mass Effect a Space Sci-Fi RPG shooter that isn't crap, sure its OTT (saving the galaxy from uber alien machines) cliché (saving the galaxy from a uber alien machine) but the game had depth, Mankind is not the most powerful in the galaxy, overall we're quite weak, and its made us and our sense or self worth angry, i'd like to thank Bioware for actually making the human condition appear in a game. the inventory system was a bit annoying (inventory management became a gameplay feature making sure your suit is best for you, and your upgrades, guns other stuff is all fit for the best job, and then selling everything else 'cus you need space for new suits) ohh and all that hardcore sex simulation.

Persona 3 Fes. There's a difference between Persona 3 and Persona 3 Fes, but I found it far more entertaining then P4, and played it all the way up till I got a PS3, which was in 09.

Go go, Deus Ex!

EDIT: Scratch that. Baldur's Gate II was released in 2000.
Best game. Period.
OK that's just weird, this was pretty much my exact thought process upon reading this thread.

Star Wars Battlefront 2
space battles? check
Huge wars? check
Multiplayer? check (online and splitscreen, not that I ever tried online)
vehicles? check
star wars? check
letting you run around as a jedi and slaughter people? check

It defined my ps2, and I'm glad to say I own it on pc as well now.

I would like to nominate Zeno Clash. It has excellent visual design, an excellent setting, gameplay, characters, and a story that I would say is quite meaningful and thought-provoking. It's only flaws I can see are its mediocre FPS elements and often sub-par voice acting.
Zeno Clash is a close second. Possibly a better game, but I don't think it has enough breadth to be game of the decade. Personally, I'm waiting for the sequel to come along and redefine several genres.

Hmm...my initial nomination (Majora's Mask) was released in 2000, so it won't work for your topic.
Think I'll have to go with...Left 4 Dead 2

I'm sad that only you said it... Dragon Age: Origins was by far the game I held dearest this decade.

Don't get me wrong ME2 and KoTOR are awesome but DA:O to me is the epitome of what interactive story telling should be.

KoTOR- I know that by modern standards it's a little lacking, but it still fucking rules. It's also the greatest Star Wars game.

It was closely folllowed by:

Cod 4
Saints Row 2
Super Mario Sunshine

Well... jeez... this is a tricky one.

Well, all of the good Crash Bandicoot games were released last decade, so lets go with Sly Cooper. Any of them really, but if you don't accept a whole series, go with the 1st one.

sorry, it goes against my beliefs as a programmer to acknowledge '01 as the first year of a decade.

I honestly can't imagine anyone sitting there near midnight on December 31 1999 going "hey guys, whats all the fuss about, we still have one more year left to go in this millennium.
