Earth Defence Force 2017. Greatest game ever. Looks awful, has about 3 buttons and some unintentionally hilarious voice-acting, frame rate suffers wildly at times but it's fantastic fun, and one of the few games i've gone back to again and again.

You sir, are full of win.

OT: Earth Defense Force 2017 is narrowly beat out by KOTOR. Although, I just beat Red Dead Redemption a few hours ago and I already proclaimed it to be the best game ever. I think I need to wait a few years to see if it still rings true to me.

dragon age

I'm sad that only you said it... Dragon Age: Origins was by far the game I held dearest this decade.

Don't get me wrong ME2 and KoTOR are awesome but DA:O to me is the epitome of what interactive story telling should be.

it was a battle between the elder scrolls and dragon age, but the story of dragon age was better than TESIV so I chose dragon age.
can't wait for Dragon Age II.

I'd say maybe... Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. That's just me though, that game made me hang on until the VERY end.

EDIT: Scratch that. Baldur's Gate II was released in 2000.

We think alike! I wrote the exact same as you, first thinking "Deus Ex" then I thought "Oh no wait, Baldur's Gate II!" But he said in his edit that the decade is 01-10, not 00-09.


OP: The best game in the decade probably has to be Deus Ex. Purely for it's amazing story, innovative graphics and gameplay, and amazing freedom. However, the game in which I had the most fun playing, and have replayed the most, was Half-Life 2. I loved the story, the graphics and the gameplay (like Deus Ex). But because it was more casual, and I felt that I could screw around more, Half-Life 2 held more for me.

So it depends on your classification of the best game.
Because:

Best game determined by innovation, gameplay and legacy: Deus Ex
Best game determined by fun, storyline/characters, graphics: Half-Life 2

IMO, obviously.
