Perfect Dark usurps Golden Eye as ultimate party game. Laptop guns FTW.

The best RPG had to be Ogre Battle 64 or Paper Mario

Starfox wins flier but of course it made anything else in the sky look pitifly bad next to it's awesomeness.

Oh and one other thing Perfect dark had over Halo. One word- Bots. Perfect Dark wins.

snipped.
This.

Me and my friends would go up against those Dark bots. We would get our asses kicked. So much fun trying to kick some bot ass.

But Mario Kart, OOT, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were the best of the best on that system.

How about Paper Mario for the 64? That game was pretty innovative for its day. Most of the games on the 64 looked like crap, but they pulled off the early 3-D graphics pretty well on Paper Mario. I also liked Shadow of the Empire a lot.

My favorite game on the Playstation is Maximum Descent. Another breakthrough game that really has never been topped in terms of how the enemy AI comes at you from all directions (even below you) and how you can fly in any direction just as if you were really weightless in space. I can't think of any game I've played since that really took advantage of using all degrees of freedom both in ship control and level design like Descent does. It'd be so cool to see a new Descent game for consoles with today's HD graphics.

Donkey Kong 64 without a doubt. A very underrated Rare game compared to the other gems they made for the system. Super Mario 64 is a close second.

I guess I just really liked the 64's platformers more than its other genres.

This is a good point.

That going from near photorealistic to actual photorealistic is a technical marvel. But to the gamers themselves, this advance is not as big of a leap compared to going from 2-D to 3-D

Photorealism is the end. Time to stop focusing on advancing graphics anymore and start using what you got to make fun games to use them
I find photo realism can be depressing too. Remember how colourful something like Sonic was?

Look at those blues and greens! They're fantastically bright, they make me feel happy inside!

Lets look at gears of war:

That is some GREY stuff. I feel sad again.

Now that I think about it this is probably why I loved games like Super Monkey Ball so much. Besides being stupidly ludicrous and fun, they were so damn colourful!
and thats why i am and will always be a nintendo fan boy....the other systems are gray and dirty...they have no room for fun and colours and sillyness...so i have no room for them...i live to silly and randome :3

I loved Starcraft 64 a crap load as well. I remember every saturday I had bowling (Yeah i was in a bowling league) so I'd wake up, eat some cereal, beat starcraft 64 since it was so short, and then watch Dexters Lab before going to bowling... man I had a good life!

Now a days it's all tuition, school work, rent and taxes! Bah, Humbug!

EDIT:
Ahhh flashback time! Did anyone play Jet Force Gemini??

I had such a good time with this one!!
The dog was my favorite.

i know what you mean...there where so many levels of bots and most of them where just insanely hard to beat...the challanges where really fun cause even if you had 4 people that where pro at the game...the bots could still kick your ass...perfect headshots etc.

While my favorite N64 game had to be either Duke Nukem 64 or Turok 2 I have to say that the definitive 'best' game on the N64 was easily 007 Goldeneye, the single player was awesome, the multiplayer was balanced and fun and it had plenty of replayability.

Why can't they make more games like that these days? (rather than jumping on the Halo/CoD bandwagon).
