What is your favorite storyline/plot from a game or game series?

For me it's the whole Metal Gear/Metal Gear Solid storyline. I don't think I've ever played a game with such a complex or enthralling storyline as it. And Metal Gear Solid 3 is my favorite game ever.

Hmmm, im going to be really boring and say half life 1 and 2. Just they seem to have the right balance of mystery, action, character development and natural dialogue. Those all fit together into a perfect package

I have really enjoyed Ezio's story in Assassin's Creed
And the story build up in Mass Effect (can't wait for the conclusion)

I never liked AC, I would've preferred if it was just about the Assassins and not about Desmond.

I'll agree on ME3 tohugh, the ending will be quite the spectacle.

I have never seen characterisation and character progression done better than AC2.

and you don't get a premise much more epic than the Mass Effect universe.

if you could somehow put the contrasting strengths of these two games together I'm fairly sure it would be in the running for best story ever, not just within gaming, ever.

Tie between Planescape: Torment and Mask of the Betrayer for me. Neverwinter Nights 2's main campaign was a cliche, silly plot that was fun, but nothing really different. It also had a terrible ending. Now, the expansion, Mask of the Betrayer on the other hand, had an absolutely brilliant story and setting with some of the best RPG companions in any that I've played.

I think Planescape: Torment speaks for itself, it's surprisingly popular on this site.

I've seen some good ones, but for all-around I'll have to go with mass effect.

Well, since Half Life has been stated, Okami's story was epic. Not to mention the premise, that you are essentially GOD.

Fallout New Vegas touches on some political and social issues, which I think many more games should be doing, but... I don't think any game I have personally played would have the best storyline.

Um, Desmond is an Assassin. And will be who you play as in AC3. He is what holds nearly the entire series together. Without the modern twist there would be no third game.... Or any, really.

Tales of Symphonia and Lost Oddessy. No matter how many times I play these games they never fail to make me cry, and the writes create wonderful worlds full of betrayal, sociopolitical conflict, and conspiracy. Yet they always allow for light hearted moments and memorable characters. I love these stories.

Deus Ex. Definitely Deus Ex. BioShock is a close second, tied with the Mass Effect series. In third place, we have the Thief series.

Metal Gear Solid if you ignore what a steaming pile of shit MGS4 was.
I liked MGS4.

I've watched an entire marathon of it and never touched the game, didn't give two shits about the story, but it was... I don't know, I think cool is the word to use here.

OT: I'm not gonna say Bioshock, because being forced to listen to all those tapes to get an appropriate background for the story was rather boring and tedious, and I'm not gonna say Mass Effect (mostly for the boring and tedious parts), but also because the actual tough decisions were too far between, and Mass Effect 2 was probably one of the most disappointing games I've ever played (having to collect all that stuff from other planets and doing everyone's side objective was the most bored I've been in a game). I didn't start liking the game till my teammates started dying. That, and because of who died and who lived, I had probably one of the most perfect endings I could have gotten (And I did like some of the people who were killed)

So I think I'll just choose Assassin's Creed 2 (not brotherhood, though Brotherhood was more fun gameplay wise).

I felt like I knew why I was targeting those people, and I felt like a badass while I did it. Also, before the game even started I had already sort of convinced myself to hate Ezio. I wasn't really digging the accent.

How wrong I was. He quickly became one of the coolest characters I have ever played.
