After 20 years of playing video games that answer is still easy for me: Super Mario RPG.

maybe its just me but i don't understand all the hype around this game, maybe its cause i never got to enjoy it when it first came out, but i bought it for Virtual Console, and out of all the RPGs i've played before...its sort of..meh...especially compared to its following releases (Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, etc.)

Yeah, Baldur's Gate series for me. But if some evil fuck forced me to treat them as two separate games with expansions and pick just one, Id have to say Baldur's Gate II, you sadistic bastard!

...I mean yeah, Baldur's Gate II is easily my favourite game....

Dragon Age origins? As much as I appreciate them naming it the "spiritual successor", I know it doesnt stand a chance against the Baldur's Gate series. Baldur's Gate II will always be Biowares crowning glory for me, which is saying a lot given the amazing games they have released since that I have played.

My favorite game ever would be either Prototype or Persona 3 FES.

Prototype because I've been raving about it for 2 years before release and I feel I have an obligation to continue and Persona 3 because it kicks all RPG's ass, except for Eternal Sonata

I'm curious what the best game you've ever played is. My FAVORITE was Final Fantasy 10. That one was probably the peek of it's series, and scince then, its only hit a decline. I'm hoping 13 is better.

What are you on! FF 7, 8 and 12 were the best in the series by far! Or are you a traditionalist who wants to stick with the whole turn-based combat thing. As to the best game ever my favourite would have to be either pokemon Yellow, Bioshock, star wars battlefront 2 or Cod 4

Best game I ever played would either be Lineage 2 (before the 4th chronicle) or SSB Melee. Both completely different games but they just did so many things right and very well done.

I agree, along with Kingdom Hearts. I may be kiddy, and I may not be able to analyze it as good as professional reviewers, but I played it, I loved it, I have great memories of it, and nobody can make me think otherwise!

Primal. Technically, it's probably not the best game I've ever played. But the music kicks ass, the characters are great, there's plenty of variety, the environments are stunning and the puzzles are challenging. I know the graphics glitch a bit and the combat is repetitive but I really don't know why more people don't love this game.

Or Chocobo Dungeon FTW! =P

Mass Effect. It's a rich, wonderfully inventive RPG from the makers of Knights of the Old Republic that crams everything that's good about RPGs and science fiction into one package jam-packed with pure awesomeness. Sure, the dialogue might be a bit heavy and there are a few balancing issues with the combat, but that's a small price to pay for a game as good as this. Did I mention storyline-wise it could be the next Star Wars? I'm just saying.

Rome: Total War. That game utterly blew my mind in 2004 and still to this day utterly blows my mind...just a crowning achievement for the Creative Assembly.

Sorry but there are two things I have to say about your comment. First and foremost I don't believe Mass Effect will be looked upon in generations as the best story I've ever seen in a game. In my opinion, far from it but I thought they did an excellent job with the morale system and personally it probably was one of the best in any game I've ever seen. The combat wasn't too bad considering how you compared it to Knights of the Old Republic which was probably my most hated game because of how retarded the time stopping and selecting combat was. I basically just used slash or shoot constantly and never focused on anything else. Second, the Thorian on Feros can go fuck itself, just saying. Other than that I think you exaggerated a bit with Mass Effect, but I did think it was a fun game and I am planning on playing through the campaign another few times if only to get the achievements. Great game in all, except for the Thorian

I'm gonna say X-men Legends 2: Rise of Apocalypse. I had a lot of fun with it, the story was good, there weren't too many controller-snapingly difficult parts to it, there was a clearly comic book style aesthetic to it, and there were enough exploratory elements to it to keep me entertained for hours.

And I got to play as Wolverine. Wolverine!
