What did you think were the better games of the year? Also, Sniper Ghost Warrior was it any good?

I wrote my top 5 around here somewhere.

My best:

1. Blackwell Deception
2. Gemini Rue
3. Portal 2
4. Magicka
5. Alice: Madness Returns

1&2 had awesome stories. 3 had combo of fun gameplay and story (the co-op alone is worth it). 4 was incredibly fun and 5 had amazing art, interesting story and some of the most interesting maps I've seen.

Wasn't Sniper Ghost Warrior a 2010 game?

1. Persona 4 (played for the first time this year... It counts dammit!)

2. .....(this is where Catherine would go if they'd just hurry up the European localisation kthx Deep Silver)

3. Portal 2.

4. Deus Ex

5. Arkham City

Skyrim only deserves an honourable mention, due to New Vegas completely outclassing it in every possible way... Except in the Dragon catagory of course

I can't really rank the games, but my favorites have been Skyward Sword, Portal 2, Pokemon Black, Arkham City, and Gears of War 3 (though Gears wasn't a good game so much as it was a good time with my friends).

Witcher 2
Uncharted 3
Arkham City
Portal 2
Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Didn't much care for Skyrim; I prefer a plot-driven experience over finding my own stuff to do.

Dark Souls
Deus Ex
Rayman Origins
El Shaddai
Pokemon Black/White

All are pretty worthwhile experiences, although I've far and away logged the most hours into Pokemon, with Dark Souls in second.

Deus Ex seems to get plenty of praise doesn't it? Why so? The only reason Sniper is on my waiting list is because The Sniper Rifle is my favorite gun in any game I play, i like the feeling of being an assassin.(not a crazed gunman. See who gets the reference.)

This. Also Human Revolution.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior was terrible. Avoid like the plague.

EDIT: If you're looking for a good sniper game, Battlefield games have good sniping mechanics, and ARMA 2 does as well apparently.

2. Deus Ex: HR
3. Catherine
4. Portal 2
5. Mortal Kombat

I don't have Skyrim yet so that's the only reason it's not on there, and I'm an unashamed MK fan.

There were some fairly decent games this year, as well as some...well...less than decent games.
If I had to pick a top five, it'd likely go as follows:

1: Portal 2 - Far and away my favorite game from 2011. And frankly, quite possibly Valves best game to date.

2: Rayman Origins - Despite my disdain for Ubisoft at this point, this was still a fantastic action adventure side-scroller

3: Batman Arkham City - Unsurprisingly, Rocksteady nailed this one. Better than the first, of which I loved greatly

4: Deus EX: Human Revolution - It had it's flaws, but it was still a fantastic bit of cyber-punk sci-fi gaming.

5: Battlefield 3 - I know, I know. "Just another modern military shooter", you're saying. And I agree. Plus, the campaign wasn't very stellar. Still, the multi-player is so fantastic I can forgive those grievances.

Honorable mentions:
WH40K: Spacemarine for making me interested in 3rd person shooters again and providing a FAR more cathartic experience than I ever had with Gears of War.

Fusion: Genesis for being, effectively, a more expansive, top-down version of Freelancer on the Xbox Live Arcade. Seriously, check it out.

Dead Space 2. The multi-player was annoying and pointless but the campaign was fantastic (mostly) throughout. These games continue to be among some of the few decent survival-horror series.

1. Skyrim - Already 100 hours in, no stop in sight, maybe that dragon over there? Nope, Fus Ro Dah'd his ass.

2. Portal 2 - Funniest and most well thought-out nine hours I had this year.

3. Crysis 2 - Saved the damn FPS industry from CoD's stagnation plague a la Homefront. Didn't hurt that quite a few pages were taken from the Half-Life 2 book, a good book to take a few pages from.

4. Age of Empires Online - Sure, it's no Starcraft 2, but as a first-timer into the world of MMO's, this is definitely one of the better ones I've played.

5. Bastion - Beautiful story, beautiful visuals, beautiful score, beautiful game. My review here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.333834-Bastion-Review-The-Chilly-Truth]

A few honorable mentions - Battlefield 3, Deus Ex: HR, Dead Island, Arkham City, Dead Space 2, and a prayer to Gearbox to FIX DUKE NUKEM.

I'm actually pretty interested to see what Gearbox does with this icon of the FPS now that they have full control over development and can actually make a good game.

I haven't played many new games this year. But my best one for me so far was Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Keep in mind, I haven't played Skyrim, Bastion, and many other new releases that other people say are the best thing since sliced bread.

I was disapointed with fear 3, Gears of war 3, battlefeild 3 (actually most FPS) and so skyrim takes all the places.
