Mega Man X: Command Mission for $3... new... two weeks after its release... was cheaper to rent than to buy and I wound up loving it despite all the bad reviews and obvious failure at market. Still play it from time to time.

Final Fantasy 7 for PC for 10 bucks at a Kay Bee Toys. This was in the late 90's too, so it wasn't a terribly old game. And its pretty difficult to find a PC copy.

Frequency for 5 bucks. It was a unofficial prequel game on ps2 to the guitar hero series.

Microprose "Conquer the Universe" Pack.

X-Com (Played the hell out of it)
X-Com 2 (too much like 1, much harder, less fun)
Master of Magic (played the hell out of it)
Master of Orion (played the hell out of it)
Demo Disc (Had some fun)

$30.

Great bargain, considering the hours I've spent on those.

However, considering it was 5 CDs and skimpy install/copy protection manual, it was hideously overpackaged in a box bigger than an old Monopoly box.

Oh jeez where t'start. I make it a habit of skimming the bargain bins and trying out games because there are often some really good ones that just flew too low under the radar and I'm willing to give a game a chance for five bucks. namely:

The first two sly cooper games (I cannot wait for the new one! I'm so glad Sucker Punch is starting to get the love they deserve.)
Pirates Curse of the Black Buccaneer (Surprisingly not bad and not just a potc clone either.)
Primal (Intelligent realistic female heroine, a funky gargoyle *and* a sharp dry sense of humour? sign me up!)
Malice (Small gods do big hammer damage. Plus the clockwork everywhere is nice.)
Galleon (your character looks and sounds like Gaston and Bruce Campbell's love child. 'nuff said)
Blinx 1 + 2 (Cute time mechanic and a fun techno soundtrack.)
Ruff Trigger
Sphinx and The Cursed Mummy (really clever and tons of fun. Exploiting that your pc is already dead? Check)
Dr Muto (stupidly hard at times but still fun.)

All of these ran me ten bucks at most and averaged under 5.

I got both Condemned games for a grand total of $9.

Each game alone is worth at least triple that.

Mass Effect 1 & 2 for £15.....

BARGAIN OF THE CENTENARY!!!!
What's a centenary?

You mean a cemetery?

I think he meant century.

OT: Psychonauts and Indigo Prophecy for six bucks each. On a thrift store rack of derelict games, most of them Deer Hunter-type stuff.

That's not counting Steam's constant sales. My library has over 150 games now. Can't resist when they sell 'em for 10% of original price. =P

The Target near my parents' house massively overstocked on Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil. I was able to buy it for $4.99 one day after its release.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney for $5

Bought it on impulse right before a long car ride. Got through the first case before my wife 'can I see that real quick'ed it from me and beat it before I got it back. We both went on to buy and play all the rest of the games in the series and pray daily for the Phoenix Wright/Professor Layton crossover to make it to the states.

Definitely "Deadly Premonition" for $15! That game is absolutely awesome if you are the type who can get past graphics.

Also, I don't think this counts since I didn't actually get it at a store, but I got a used copy of the Klonoa remake for the Wii for $7. I played the heck out of that game and highly recommend it for all platformer fans <3
