The N64 controller is the best.

If you have three arms.
I personally never had a problem with the N64 Controller. Sure, from a design standpoint it's a complete mess, but as far as comfort goes it wasn't too bad, at least for me.
Same here. The games were designed with the mindset of not over-complicating the controls, so there was no point where you had to use the stick and d-pad at any time, or use the stick and the left trigger at the same time. The C-buttons also functioned great for strafing and what not.

Overall I'd have to say I've found every controller I've ever used to be great. I've never found any of them to be cumbersome, poorly laid out or uncomfortable.

N64

No, I'm not kidding. I grew up with that thing and I love it. "HAW HAW HAW YOU NEED 3 HANDS TO USE N64 CONTROLLER LAWL IM SO CLEVER" Shut up. In case you all hadn't noticed, all the GOOD games for the N64 used one of two setups.
1. Left hand in middle with joystick and Z button, right hand on the right with the A,B, C, and R buttons.
or
2. Left hand on D-pad and L button, right hand on the right with the etc. etc.

What's so hard about that? Besides, take away the joystick in the middle and it's just a SNES controller with 2 more buttons on the right. What's so complicated and hard to use about that? The only game I've ever played that used the L button or D-pad when your left hand wasn't there is Super Smash Bros., and the L button was just for taunts.
Seriously folks, stop hating on the N64 controller. I love it and will defend it with my fanboy rage.

I know it is not a popular controller, but i gotta say the Game Cube controller just does it for me. Having a button in the middle surrounded by 3 other buttons seemed to me to just work THAT much better than having four buttons on the points of a diamond like Xbox and Sony. I just find that in most games there is a button that needs to be pressed more than others, Jump for example. And the gamecube controller made it the Primary button where your thumb sat, moving radialy out from that when needing to do other things.

That being said the second control stick for the right hand, the C stick, that was a piece of crap. But i for buttons that dont use that very often, it just seemed to work really well. Im thinking of games like Prince of Persia and Soul Calibur 2. But with FPS it just was horrible, but anything that is not a keyboard and mouse is pretty horrible for FPS.

I have basically no experience with the old controllers except for GameCube, but I prefer the PS3's Sixaxis over XBox because it fits better into my hands (plus I think the XBOX one is a bit ugly, but that's an oppinion, no flame).

I absolutely love the GameCube controller. It fits my hands perfectly. I like the shape of the 360's controller but I can't stand the control pad or the analog sticks.

Except for the D-pad being ass, I'm going to agree with the 360 controller.
The 360 controller is the best particularly as the D-[ad isn't ass. You usually only have to tap it so even if it was ass it wouldn't be a major problem
My main problem is that it's an 8-way disc. I much prefer the PS3's controller not because it's a nice 4-way d-pad, but because the buttons are seperated (even the Wiimote's d-pad picks up slight presses in other directions). It's also very horrible to type with.

PS style.1-3
It has 2 analog stick which is a must for games that let you control the camera and the left one is lower and the d-pad is made of 4 buttons(which is why i like the 360 one less)

Growing up I thought the Dualshock 2 was the pinnacle of game controllers, then the 360 came out and not only did it convert me from sony to microsoft, it introduced me to the most glorious hand fittingly awesome controller that is the 360 controller.

I find the playstation's controller to be the most ergonomic. Its d-pad, for reasons mentioned above, is far superior to that of the xbox; this makes a huge difference when playing fighting games. I don't like how the ps3's r2 and l2 curve toward the player though.

Real big tossup.

Xbox 360 has a very good controller, but yes the Dpad is a little less than desired. N64 controller was very quirky, but yet it felt so right.

So I'm going to say eenie meenie miney you. The Xbox 360 controller only because It's wireless, whereas the N64 wasn't yet.

Oh, and I'm one of those big handed weirdos who liked how big the Duke was, and got cramps when playing PS controllers.

Damn you said it before I could. Yea I agree. Didn't need to twist your fingers to use the buttons and it was comfortable.

Gamecube is just the easiest to handle.
fits perfect,
you only have 2 shoulder buttons instead of 4,
you can touch all buttons in one grip,

the best one i've ever touched by far.

I still prefer the n64 controller to everything else. I loved the pistol grip style and trigger setup on it and strafing was pretty easy too on fps games.

It's a tie between the Gamecube and 360 controllers for me. They're both really comfortable to hold with great button layouts, however the c-stick on the GC was quite poor

The Gamecube controller is my favorite of the bunch, while the 360 controller is a close second. The GCN controller just fit right into my hands, and I felt like all the buttons were perfectly placed, and even perfectly designed. I could press all of them without moving my thumb off the A button quite easily.

And I love my PlayStation and all but I hate the feel controller. It feels awkward in my hands, especially with both thumbs on the analog sticks. The D-pad feels like a dream though, and it feels alright with both my thumbs on the buttons.
