Since we clearly do not have enough threads regarding this series, I've decided to make one.

Anyways, question is, what do you think was the best set of pokemon games in your opinion? What was the weakest and for what reason?

I find Gen 2 to be the best since it improved on everything the previous games did, new region, new pokemon, new moves, usually you would expect from a sequel. It also let you travel to the previous region, something the later games (barring remakes) didn't really do despite technical limitiations not being there anymore and allowing for better execution. I mean, just that expanded the game time in my opinion.

Again, it's all opinions. Your turn.

The best is by far Gen 5 for me. The new Pokemon look and play great, in my opinion. The games themselves have a fun story and the always great meta-game that I've come to know and love.

The weakest I think was Gen 3. Specifically, Leaf Green/Fire Red. Sure, the remakes were all well and good, but the addition of the islands weren't enough to buy a whole rehash of the same game. Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald on the other hand, were great. They had great Pokemon and I loved the new region.

My opinion? Gen 3 was the best. It made everything just work. Mind you, the map made me rage hard (so confusing) but I feel like it did wonders for the series.

The one thing that it was missing was being able to travel back to Johto and Kanto, though.

Heres hoping for a 3DS remake /fingerscrossed

I think remakes really shouldn't count considering they technically don't add anything new, not that you would be expecting them to do so anyways.

Well, its hard to say. I havent played Gen V yet, but I've seen what the added, and I like the mechanics that were added, but I dont like the new pokemon based on the stats and typings. There's gonna be a alot of broken game play between these pokemon and the ones from Gens I-IV, since they did this game with all new pokemon.

SO I'd say Gen IV is the strongest, because it did the most to change the metagame and battle scene.

The weakest would be Gen III. Not out of hate, but there were really no new pokemon added that anyone stuck with that arent over used or common place now, and it did little to change anything. I mean, hell, even the only new HM it added didnt even carry over, and that was something of a defining characteristic. Now you have to catch one of the very few pokemon that learns dive naturally, and even then its not worth while to have as a battling move, like fly or focus/dynamic punch.

I liked gold and silver anyhting byound that was bad. Red blue and yellow were great, but not as good as gold/silver.

I can't speak for the whole series, but out of the first 3 generations, I liked 2 (GSC) the best and 3 (RSE) the least. I think it's probably 2 things.
1) Gen 2 was big. The world had a very real sense of size and there was a lot to do even after you beat the game, plus it built on Where gen 1 left off.
2) The music. The music from from gen 3 wasn't bad, per se, it just wasn't as good. For example, here's the music from the Team Rocket hideouts from Gen 1 and 2 and the Team Magma/Aqua hideout side by side
While fairly simplistic midi tunes, they convey a sense of malice and dread

It's not a bad tune, but I just don't feel any suspense from it
3) Ending. Both "endings" of Gen 2 (both Lance and Red) are just great. It's climactic, since the whole game has been building up just how tough they are, symbolic of passing the torch to the next generation, and the music was awesome.
Gen 3 ended with a battle with a character who really did nothing throughout the whole game, has no emotional attachment to the player, and really just kind of annoys me for some reason.

Pokemon Gold & Silver for the Gameboy Color were absolutely brilliant and improve everything from the originals.

Ruby & Sapphire for the Gameboy Advance were the most disappointing games I've ever played and pretty much made me stop playing Pokemon all together.

Yeah, I thought they were that bad.

Pokemon HeartGold was the best IMO. Just like the original but with the hardware improvements and also the game mechanic improvements. Best

I would say that Diamond was one of the weakest. Felt the selection of pokemon was pretty blah...

I honestly preferred Diamond. Mostly because it was the only Pokemon game in the main series I've actually beaten the Pokemon league in. >_>

Of course Gen. 1 always holds a special place in my heart.
