I am running a Pathfinder game called Carrion Crown and I want to spice it up and make it really scary, I was wondering if some of you could point me in the right direction of some good horror flicks to get me started. Some good horror mood music would be nice too.

It would be useful if you mentioned what type of horror you'd like. Off the top of my head: Dog Soldiers, Uzumaki, Ringu or Ju-On, 1408, Suspiria..

Well I would go for anything that would give a emotional response besides boredom, and humor. I just need ideas and the best way to get ideas is to see what others have done with there own ideas.

Really needed to be more specific with the game you're running dude? Whats the general plot? Sci-fi? Fantasy? At sea? ect ect
Best shot in the dark I got for modern inspiration is..
The Silent Hill movie. Cant go wrong with that.
If that's too softcore try Pandorium (sci-fi horror) or The Descent (f**ing awsome survival horror)
Good luck!

Pretty much anything that comes out of Japan, Taiwan or Korea could show you a LOT about building tension instead of simply making loud banging noises and throwing a monster in your face.

Well there are many good horrormovies out there, and I guess it all depends what kind of horror you'd most want, but I'll just give you a selection here of movies I personally tend to look to for inspiration of various kinds.

Suspiria
Return of the Living Dead
Night -''-
Event Horizon
Nosferatu(the original silent movie)
Black Sheep
Bride of Frankenstein
Evil Dead-trilogy
30 Days of Night
Tenebrae

... actually I can go on. And on. And probably on. But I'll leave it at that because otherwise I'll just spend the rest of the day naming movies I like...

For film, try the silent Nosferatu from the 1920s. True horror for me is about subtlety and letting the mind do all the work. I also think The Blair Witch Project succeeded here, too (no, really) - it essentially captured the same essence by showing nothing. But I'm sure you've already seen that one.

For music I'd consider Throbbing Gristle, Nurse With Wound, groups like that. Not to directly use but perhaps as a good jumping-off point to do something else. They certainly get the atmosphere right.

Any horror will work, like I said as long as it gave people and emotional response. It is a dungeons and dragons type game, so European Renaissance type. I can use even Sci-fi horror however, anything that can actually scare someone I can somehow work into a game.

I agree the best horror is when your scaring the pants off of yourself.

For music, i will also say from The Thing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpSO9mqwcRw&feature=related

Edit:

The reason I say the thing a lot, is because it (to me at least) the most deadly/smartest of aliens/parasites. The thing though hard to tell what it is, is either a alien or a parasite that infect host and makes a perfect replica of them. Every emotion it has, how they act, even if the person has a disease it will recreate that in the host body to make sure it will go by unfaze by anyone else.

The Thing would only attack for a few reasons.

A) if you are by yourself and think you can be a useful tool it would attack and infect you.

B) If somehow it is in danger then it will mutate to either defend itself or try to get away.

The Thing is also smart. It will try its hardest to not get found out and try to get everyone to not trust each other. Making it easier for it to infect and kill around it.

Eraserhead. It's not jump-in-your-seat scary, it's just eerie and very peculiar.

This guy uploads a lot of public domain films. You should check them out. I guess you may as well just download them instead of loading them on youtube though. Old horror films tend to be kind of hilarious though.

As for music:
What makes it even sadder is that the guy who made this music committed suicide.

I don't know all that much about horror. It makes me paranoid, so I don't go out of my way to watch it. I used to read "true ghost stories" online but it made me scared.
