Winter is upon us, and so I'm looking for additions to my iPod for walking around in the bitter cold. Since so many video games love to send you to cold places, I'm turning to soundtracks for inspiration.

Sadly, the only thing I've found that matches what I'm looking for is this hot number from Ninja Gaiden Black:

It's grim, but determined. Most of the other ice level themes I run into are too chipper. If I was going to frolic around in the snow, I'd leave my not-very-fond-of-water iPod at home.

Does anyone have any recommendations? More modern selections are preferred, but I'll take a listen to anything.

beat me to it. it's literally the best. the best of the best.

Crash Bandicoot has some ice levels in the original trilogy, CTR and Crash Bash, might be worth looking at.

Also if you want to spruce up your Ice Cap Zone then I 100% recommend this gem:

Too chipper? Perhaps something akin to climbing Mt. Everest would be more to your liking.

This is a hard one...

Either every ice stage in the Mega Man franchise, Donkey Kong Country, or Tales Of Symphonia.

Hold on there, what is this?

Oh, it's just another vote for Ice Cap Zone

But Chimpzy, that's not Ice Cap Zone. Except it totally is.

Shit. Okay so I got Ninja'd on Ice Cap, so as a runner up I'll throw in the Calinca Ruins music from Megaman Legends 2. I love the music so much, sadly the dungeon can be a pain:

I don't know if you've ever been in the thick of a Chicago winter before. On the worst days, I've seen it go down to -30 degrees. I've worn a ski mask and found that my eyelids stuck together every time I blinked. And there isn't even snow, just dirty slush. A day like that is no time to listen to Freezeezy Peak:

That's a day when I want to listen to something badass to give me the will to keep going.

...What? It does play in a snow themed area. It counts... sorta.

Alright, fine, here's some music that plays while exploring in WOW.

So soothing. One of my favourite zones in the game actually.

Hmm. Tough call.

However, I think I'll go unorthodox and post one I'm sure no one else will. In fact, I'd wager no one else in the thread even considered it.

The songs from MechWarrior 2 and Ghost Bear's Legacy played during snow missions.
Okay, granted, it's not a single song. Sorry, had to cheat. But the soundtracks to those games were fantastic.

A bit faster paced, but not chipper.
And lastly
What? Chipper?? Nah, I don't hear it.

This, without a doubt, is my fave ice level theme. Game was fantastic as well. Sure, the music isn't exactly screaming cold, but the level sure as hell was.

Zelda has consistently good themed music with their Ice/Winter themes being some of their best. I found A Link Between World's Ice Ruins theme to be especially strong. It really gives off a frigid and kind of eerie vibe.

The Snowpeak theme from Twilight Princess was also pretty great in capturing both the beauty and desolation of Winter.

As for non-Zelda related snow themes, I found the Weep'Keer theme from Okami to be hauntingly beautiful.

The entire Mechwarrior 2 soundtrack was fantastic, I think I'll go listen to that right now.

It's not from any video game but I think this is the best "Ice-themed" music I have heard.

Oooooh. I must not have gotten far enough in Okami to hear that one. Lot of great suggestions here, but you, sir or madam, are in the lead thus far.
