So I decided to play Borderlands again today for no particular reason. I wanted to see if I could still solo Crawmerax or if I was too rusty. I had given up on farming him a while ago because he just never seemed to drop any pearlescent weapons for me. I downed him on my very first try and was amazed to find a Fearsome Bessie. A sniper rifle that does almost 2000 damage and has a 500% bonus crit damage. Not to mention, it has 100% accuracy when zoomed in. Easily the best sniper in the game and probably the best weapon I've found (although the Hellfire and Double Anarchy sure give it a run for its money).
What are some of the best items my fellow Escapists have found? Be it in Diablo, Borderlands, Torchlight or other loot driven games.
How do you solo him? He's like five levels above you, even when you're max level! I've never seriously tried him, but I'd love to if there's a good trick to him. He's the only thing I have left to do basically for full gamerscore.
It's not too hard as the Siren because when you are about to die you simply phase walk (which is perked to regenerate most of you health) and run over behind the wall. He won't see you go there so he doesn't look for you. He just sits where you left him. You wait behind cover for the short cool down of phase walk to finish and then you run out and unload as many bullets as you can into him. Just repeat this over and over. The first time I beat him, I didn't have amazing guns so it took almost 20 minutes of this. Now, if I'm lucky, I can get him in at most 5 minutes and sometimes as little as 1.
I use 4 different SMG's for the fight. I use the Double Anarchy (does almost 200 damage a shot and fires 4 shots at once plus, thanks to my skill tree and proficiency, it has a ridiculous fire rate) on Crawmerax, I use my Hellfire for Green Craw Worms, a Corrosive ***** for the Armored Craw Worms, and purple rarity Lightning SMG for the Craw Maggots.
You need to bring an elemental weapon for each of his minions to not only trigger on kill effects, but also in case you do go into last stand so you can get a second wind.
I gave the Fearsome Bessie to my level 69 Hunter with his sniper proficiency maxed. He can now solo crawmerax too. Because of the Bessie's 500% crit damage, he one shots each of crawmerax's limbs. It's a harder fight though because of no phase walk. I do have an elemental weapon for each worm though so I can always kill one for second wind. The hard part is getting to shoot Crawmerax's back.
