Arch Enemy and Children of Bodom.

I wouldn't really say that COB is Melodic Death Metal, but their Wikipedia page says so along with pretty much everything else.
My Vote goes to Children of Bodom and dude their first 4 albums, there is no way you can call that anything but Melodic Death Metal.
I say its totally Death Metal, but I just wouldn't say its melodic. Theres no real melody to it, but I still love it and I have all their albums

I don't see how you can say it's not melodic, Bed of Razors, Children of Bodom, Silent Night Bodom Night, Kissing the Shadows, Children of Decadence, Bodom After Midnight, Lake Bodom, all of these have alot of melody in them.
The first 5 you listed, yes. Oooo Bed of Razors is such a good song!
Definately, Hatebreeder is my favorite Children of Bodom album, it just has so many good songs on it like Downfall.
My favorite's still Are You Dead Yet.

I wouldn't call them melodic death metal, either. They're power metal. Sure, Alexi screams; that doesn't automatically make it death metal when the instrumentation has more in common with bands like Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, Edguy, etc.

On topic: I'd say Dark Tranquillity. Also, I've been enjoying Heaven Shall Burn lately. Not the best, but definitely a solid band.

Thank you! You're the first person to agree with me.

Melodic death metal? that sounds like a really obscure niche to me. If it wasn't for the fact this is on the escapist ( with it's huge metalhead population), you'd have gotten about the same number of replies if you'd asked people what their favourate Elephant 6 Collective band was.

Gardenian is amazing. They nolonger exist, though.
Melodic Death Metal = Death Metal with less distorted instrumentals
^ Tends to be the general rule.[youtube]

EDIT: Anyone know how to make my post shorter?

I like so much of it that it's really hard to choose. I think nothing paves it better than "Dethklok" even though they're a fake parody/satirical something or other. It's got everything you would want from a melodic death metal band. Good melodies, awesome memorable riffs and solos, fucking crazy drums, and it's one of the few that use the proper death growl as opposed to the CoB/Kalmah type thing (I like these bands a lot, but niether really embrace the full essence of melodic death like Klok.)

Also, does anyone know any serious bands that sound similar to dethklok? The closest I've found are Amon Amarth and Satyricon.
