Ok lets give a quick change of pace to things, I have a question for you, In your opinion (and please be rational) and with at least having played 3 rpgmmos, What is the best mmorpg you have played?

I think I'll go for Dungeons and Dragons online. Even if it lacks open world exploring, the quest, puzzle and level design is pretty good and I like the combat better than warcraft.

I'm gonna have to say World of Warcraft. There's a reason it's number one by an order of magnitude.

Hmm...

Pre-WotLK WoW was great, pre-TBC is when I started playing it and it ended up taking 4 years of my life from addiction. Though after it started to get simplified in TBC it fell downhill, the final straw was a few months into WotLK and everything was too easy and simple (They removed an entire spell because it was too difficult to monitor 5 things...)

If I had to go for an MMORPG that it is still possible to play then I'd say Anarchy Online, as that has alot of unique things and it is nice to plan where to put all the thousands of skill points each level and thing about implants and gear you can fit on whith other stuff. Also I did rather like my level 24 Engineer running around with a pet so high level it came up as ??? to me (I asked someone and it was apparently level 56) also >200 levels is pretty nice as a timesink.

Don't you mean MMORPG?

I enjoy ocassionaly playing Maplestory. I didn't really get into WoW in the short time I spent playing it and I never really liked the idea of paying each month to talk to friends and kill ugly virtual thingies together.
I much prefer a free MMORPG with the option to buy stuff using real life money. I also like the simple graphics of Maplestory, although to many people I suppose that wouldn't be a point in its favor but against it.

WoW. It is the only one that held my attention, and I enjoy it.

(also all mmo's are compared to WoW so I assume it is considered the best by most people:p)

I'd say EVE Online has to be my favorite as it does something new and different and does it well. Player freedoms FTW! My second would be Lord of the Rings Online; I suppose my third favorite would be Guild Wars(And I'm really looking forward to GW2), and I've also enjoyed my share of the free portions of DDO. I tried WoW once and never got into it... didn't like the art style and the dull quests.

World of Warcraft was the most technically impressive and vast, but the best overall experience goes to Mabinogi. It's not a terribly deep game, and it's got one of those "free to play, small price to upgrade" freemium things going on, but it's really fun to play with friends. The combat's a bit more active than what you see in most MMOs, too, so that's a plus.

There is only one big difference and a few smaller ones between mumorpugers.

- aesthetics
- gameplay
- the business model of F2P & P2P

Mumorpugers are all basically the same thing, with my 3rd point as the biggest difference between them.

P2P MMOs are inclined towards pleasing their customers and hang on to the "the only difference between players is how much time is invested" scheme.

F2P MMOs are inclined towards exploiting the human psyche with complex psychology. They hang on to a scheme called "the only difference between players is how much money is invested (in the cash shop)".

I've played literally every mumorpuger out there (with the exception of Maple Story and those super cartoonish ones), and all the F2P ones are the same shit.
Once they start out - they're great and fun. After a few months, the developers start putting up items that give players advantages, in the cash shop.
After a few more months, the developers start putting up items that give players insane advantages, in the cash shop.
Soon, those who didn't invest money in their characters, start "whining" about the rich people who just pay up and outrank everyone who doesn't; soon, the community starts collapsing and the company notices it - so they start milking the "cash cow" even more, until the game closes down, and the company moves on to another project.
Mind you, there is some incredibly witty psychology included in those F2P mumorpugers.

P2P MMOs, on the other hand, are definately better, because they are (more) FAIR to all players. Take a look at WoW and tell me why they're doing so much better than eg. Silkroad Online.

I guess that's pretty much it.

Hrm. Ill give a /nod to Everquest simply because its likely no one else would.

Its a plausible argument anyway. The game is as deep if not deeper than anything else out there. It was innovative, it is mind bogglingly vast, and its still around and ... somewhat.. viable.

I mean if the king of the hill got that way in some measure from ripping off the foundation from a game, and the GUI from its sequel wouldnt that by virtue of technicality make the ripped off game the best?

The best i played? I tried UO, WoW, Ragnarok Online and Guild War.

Ultima online war the better (since we could build stuff on the map whenever we wanted), even with its huge gameplay/interface/balancebugs and flaws.

Doesnt mean i like dit that much. They were all grindfest with "ultimate" builds and equipement that made everything else before it useless and powerless. Not much fun.

I've gotten kinda sick of MMORPG's because they're all so samey (WoW clones.) I really liked Rohan despite it being a WoW clone because of the classes. I really loved Dhans.

DDO was also pretty good and a nice change of pace. My only problem with it was that well its DUNGEONS and dragons. Boy are there a lot of dungeons and it got repetitive rather quickly.

Anarchy Online was also rather cool because I had been looking for a more sci-fi MMORPG at that time. Although I kinda forgot about it after awhile.

Nothing else really comes to mind that are MMORPG's. For MMO shooters I really liked GunZ and Global Agenda.

EDIT: Ah yes, I can't believe I forgot Runescape. This is probably an all-time favorite of mine. It's changed a lot since I stopped playing but at least when I played I absolutely loved it. The quests were genuinely interesting and it was much more than kill x of y. Also, there was much more variety in what you could do in the game. My problem with many mmo's now is that all you can really do is kill stuff or sometimes craft. In Runescape (especially if you were a member, 5 bucks a month is nothing) you had access to such a wide variety of stuff and they added more too. Stuff from cooking to thieving. So if you ever got bored of killing stuff you could go check on crops you were farming or chop trees.

Dungeons and Dragons Online (DDO)

I like that every quest has a story. Not great for grinding, and it can hurt immersion when the NPC requests that you investigate the mystery for the nth time, but it makes the first time through a quest that much more exciting. Also, I like that (in some quests) I can take a stealth-based character through without actually needing to kill anyone. If I want to. Of course, I get more XP for rampant murder, but IF I want to I generally can.

Oh, I also like that I can ignore everyone else online except my real life friends (who are in a guild with me) so I don't need to party with anyone I can't slap the next time I see them. But then, I guess I could do that in some other MMOs too.

BTW: I played DDO before it was free, and I still play it now. For what it's worth.

World of Warcraft.

It's not my favourite. I've also been subscribed to City of Heroes and Fallen Earth and personally I prefer either of them to WoW, but the question is best not favourite, and I can't deny that WoW does what it does better than any other MMO I've played.
