Anyone who has played Oblivion will have a moment burned into their memory. Something that you did or saw that was amazing, weird, hilarious, or a mix of all three. Here's mine:
"I'm walking down the streets of Border Watch. Okay, I've completed the first two tasks in Sheogorath's quest... go to the center of town? Fine. Don't forget to duck? Hhhmmm... the sky's turning red... *thump* What the... *looks up* HOLY CRAP IT'S RAINING FLAMING DOGS."
What's your "Oblivion moment?"

Oh how I wish I could love this game like you guys do. It just refuses to grip me. The leveling system especially... and a little not REALLY being able to play the kind of character I want to play... It just refuses to to strike me. :(

For me it will always be walking into the corrupted forest from the Unique Landscapes mod. I was so god damn afraid of the wisps thats I just stood crouched in one of the ruined houses hoping they wouldn't see me.

And then I found a unicorn, and rode it to freedom.

Mods are the solution!

I haven't gotten too far into the game (only 2 hours or so). It was when I found out I could get the ability to turn invisible once a day. Invisibility is one of my favorite abilities and I completely lost my shit for about 2 minutes because I found out that I can turn invisible for one minute per (day), and the ability wears off if I try to attack (I learned that from a mission where I was supposed to catch some robbers).

Anything to do with Sheogorath. Seriously, he's awesome. You can even use Jabbawocky to kill Mehrunes Dagon.

I'd have to say the belongs to closing my first Oblivion gate (the one in Kvatch). So, I'm sneaking around the upper levels trying to figure out where to go next. Suddenly about half way up the excrement hits the oscillation and I'm running for my sneaky not so combaty life. You could have literally played bad ass chase music or the Benny Hill Theme. I chose to go with the bad ass stuff.

Anyway, I run and see this orb. There are like two uber daedra behind me and so many scamps I los count. So I run for this thing and grab the orb and jump from the platform it's on to escape death. Then I'm sitting in the rain-soaked little town and have just realized that my pain has only just begun, but still that was cool and really climactic.

The time when I finally stopped playing the main quest because I got so tired of the damn oblivion gates.

Those two missions in the Dark Brotherhood. The fun ne and the sad one. Don't pretend you don't know what I am talking about.

Touching off civil war between the guards and the guilds.
(Gain the allegiance of the guilds, then piss off the guards. When your guild(s) see the guards attacking you, they'll attack the guards. After that, just sit back and let the thing snowball.)

I HATED liberating Kvatch. I'm also the "sneaky not so combaty" type of character (agent class)wearing the dark brotherhood robes which degrade so quickly, and I got my ass handed to me more than a couple times. I ended up at the end having to drag one mob all the way back to that one unkillable knight and letting him tank it while I took potshots at it. fun times.

I like the Arena. The quest itself and Grey Prince quest is fine, but I like the hidden story that you get by talking to the Blue Gladiator. It actually really interested me as to how he reacted as I continued to win in the arena. It's the little bits of story that make it for me, where there are no quests, just talking to people. They aren't important to anything, they just showed that the devs cared.

I loved the guilds sidequests so naturally i made my way to the top of the mages guild.

Later i moved on to the thieves guild.

I found myself, then, in a mission where you are supposed to steal a staff from the Archmage's room so the guards where rearranged, and later put it back. Being the archmage himself it was quite hilarious for me to go into my chambers literally greeting everybody on my way to steal an important staff.
But the cherry on top is how after giving the staff to the thieves guild, they tell me how the archmage himself went to complain against Hieronimus Lex for the guards prior reasignment to the backwater district.
Wait... when did i go and talked to him? I definitely remember having avoided Hieronimus Lex in all the ordeal, so, when did the archmage complained again?
Great, now I may have multiple personalities. I'm going insane!

The first time I assassinated Valen Dreth for the Dark Brotherhood after like a 100 tries without being seen, because I had low sneak skill. It was priceless, especially when he freaked out when I told him why I was there... vengeance for your petty insults.

First time visiting Cloud Ruler Temple or Dive Rock; I was blown away in both instances.

Shooting Adoring Fan from Dive Rock.

Pushing or hacking Adoring Fan of Dive Rock.

Convincing Adoring Fan to jump off Dive Rock.

Doing that Dark Brotherhood mission in Bruma
the one where you drop a Minotaur head on a dude
I get detected by the bodyguard I'm not supposed to kill and quickly run from the house. I leave Bruma, get the reward, and pretty much forget about the whole thing.

After some time has passed I need to sell stuff to the fence there, so I go back, search for him in his house, not finding him, I go to the tavern (he likes to hang out there most of the time). As I approach the fence some dude jumps at me swinging a two-hander of some sort. I panic, hesitate to attack him (who knows what the guards will do) and run from the tavern. Outside he chases me, hits me once and is promptly swarmed by all the nearby guards. As they kill him, I notice his name, remember where I've read it before and proceed to lol.

I played the game in Japanese .....

(BACKGROUND - YOU CAN SKIP THIS IF YOU WANT: ... most Japanese RPGs rely heavily on a lot of katakana to represent 'strength' (sutorensu) or 'intelligence' (interijensu) or whatever ... nope, not Oblivion. They decided to use really complicated kanji for EVERYTHING in the fucking game. What's that? "Bread"? No, don't use the katakana 'pan' (bread = pan in JP); noooo, let's use the obscure 400 yr old kanji that almost literally NO ONE in Japan can even *read* let alone *write*. Fuckers.)

... and I was running around in a dungeon. These ugly bastards attacked me. All good, I killed them off. During the fight a little alert appeared at the top of the screen but I didn't have time to read it / the kanji were too complex for me. Figured it was some minor curse or other that would wear off.

A few days later I was running around one of the towns and I kept taking damage ... wtf? I was spinning around, bow drawn, eyeing the townsfolk suspiciously. The damage kept coming ... I panicked, and ran for it ... Damnit !! Someone was using fire magick on me! I kept burning !!? WTF?! Where are they?! I only seemed to be safe inside ...

... and then I realised I was butt-ugly for some reason. My character used to be quite a handsome facsimile of myself in real life. But now he looked like .. I dunno .. a fucking VAMPIRE or something.

... Oh shit ...

FFUUUUUU !!!!!!

Edit: And you thought that goddamn vampire cure quest was tough in your native damned language ... *shows scars from self harm* ... that shit HURT me .... *sniff* ... INSIDE.
