Best/ most influential power ups.

You beat me to it. I may not be a fan of Mario, but I have to agree: damn near everyone recognizes what a mushroom with a pair of eyes is suppose to be from.ward. said:
Well the most iconic power up has to be the Super Mushroom, say power up and that silly thing is the first thing to pop into the average gamer's head.
As for my personal favorite, I'd have to go with the Heavy Machine Gun from the Metal Slug Series, made life so much easier.

For "best", I'd have to go with the Iron Curtain. There's few things more disheartening than to see a horde of outright invulnerable mammoth tanks (or apocalypse tanks, in RA 2&3) utterly crush your fortress-like defenses. Although, seeing a bunch of prism tanks suddenly appear in the center of your base is pretty close; thank you chronosphere.
For "most influential", I'd say either bullet time, or the inexplicalby popular regenerating health bar. While perhaps not a power-up in the strictest sense, it's still an oddly common ability these days. Anyone know which game in particular we have to blame for that being all over the damn place?
Oh, and the holy hand grenade is a weapon, not a power-up... but it's still one of my all time favorites.

I'd say the invincibility star caps it out for memorability, because it changed the music to the special invincibility jingle.crimson5pheonix said:

Yoshis powerups are also memorable. Especially Yoshis story (Super happy fruit).
