You guys can name a couple of movies that got robbed at the Oscars in the past 3 years. I personally thought that District 9 was robbed last year by Hurt Locker. And that Slumdog Millionaire was shit, and Dark Knight shouldve won then. But, I want to hear your opinions.

Hmmm, I think you've pretty much covered the 2 that I had in mind.

Well, I agree that District 9 should've won an Oscar (Best Screenplay, maybe?) but I really enjoyed the Hurt Locker.

Why didn't In Bruges win an Oscar? It was fantastic dammit.
Colin Farrell is a god.
Listen to this man, he is clearly very intelligent.

Was it the oscars or the emmies...? But anyway, I feel like Meryl Streep should have gotten the award for best actress. I mean, Sandra Bullock playing a Southern woman in The Blind Side? She did fine, but it isn't really a stretch. Meryl Streep playing Julia Child? She did it wonderfully. She took this apparently bubbly woman and portrayed her through an entire life, with a full range of emotion.

So I take it those 6 Oscars for the first two aint worth anything at all?
So "Best Picture" is the only thing that matters?
Ah, come one, there's plenty evidence that BP is just politics, and not based on merit at all. Be happy for the tech awards, they are more honest.

Cinderella Man and Defiance.

Two amazing movies that are completely underrated.

I'm going to ignore The Dark Knight. While it's a superbly entertaining films, it's quite obvious why the Academy would be turned off (Bale's "Batman" voice, the fact they didn't give them lots of money).

Instead...why did Saw VI Watchmen not get any recognition? Actually I can see the reasons for that too...it doesn't do too well to give Best Picture to a film known for traumatising children whose parents didn't know better.

I can't think of that many films from the last 3 years. (Yes I am trying to locate a DVD of District 9.)

Don't get me wrong, Dark Knight was an amazing film, probably the best action adventure film I've ever seen, but when you strip it down, that is all it is, and action adventure. It is not intended to serve a purpose further then pure, enjoyable escapism, and it succeeds wonderfully at that. But when put it up against another brilliant film in Slumdog Millionaire, with its social commentary and meanings further then its very good story, you can't honestly argue that the Dark Knight deserved the award ahead of Slumdog Millionaire.

EDIT OT: I'd say Martin Scorsese has been robbed a fair few times, seeing as it wasn't until The Departed that he won an Oscar, though there are few films more deserving of one, in my opinion.

I probably am biased against Slumdog Millionaire because I am Indian. It just seems that thats how everyone views India in the world and thats not how its really like there.

It was entertaining. The plot was a little lame in my opinion though.

I think The Dark Knight should have won film of the year though.

I'm just glad Avatar was snuffed for the most part. That movie was WAY overrated.
