Mainly a lot of Metal like Disturbed.
I hate doing this each time someone says this...

Disturbed is NOT METAL.
Really, thats what a lot of people told me.

Then what type of rock are they?
They prefer to think of themselves as hard rock, and I tend to just go with that.

As for my music, it's usually just iTunes on shuffle, but I do love to listen to thrash metal while shooting shit up ^.^

Depends on the game.

A fantasy game like Oblivion goes really well with Prog Rock: Wolfmother, Old (Peter Gabriel era) Genesis, and Zeplin.

For something like Warhawk, I always have a lot of Jazz (Mingus, Marino, and Cowboy Bebop soundtrack), and energetic music like The Go Team along with a healthy helping of ska/punk (from the Specials to Leningrad).

Something weird like Fallout 3 or Little Big Planet, I'll have some suitably weird music: Tom Waits, They Might be Giants, and Gorillaz.

Pendulum for Mirrors Edge, I find works well

And anything from Waking the Fallen by Avenged Sevenfold for action/fighter games like Ninja Gaiden or Soul Caliber IV

While PVPing in WoW put on Any Means Necassary by Hammerfall. it puts you in the mood to murder that fucking troll hunter that killed you with an aimed shot while you were trying to defend the lumbermill(oh, GOD how i hate the lumbermill.)

I generally don't listen to music while gaming as I always want to know whats going on around me, where that shot came from etc.

However if I did it would be Metallica or Maiden. Possibly Slipknot.

I tend to listen to the game's music. But handhelds are a different matter. Usually I listen to whatever I have at hand.

Lots of Techno, but if im playing a more mellow game then some ODST soundtrack will sufice.
Hooray. I'm not the only one who listens to techno here. Drum and bass and hardcore are perfect for action games. I like trance or breaks for more casual games. But really I could listen to any and all genres of electronic music. If only I wasn't too lazy to convert my vinyl to mp3 and then put it on my xbox.
