I still have a lot of Disney animations to watch, but of what I've seen the only great one they ever made was Beauty and the Beast. I still prefer Spirited Away and probably The Tale of the Princess Kaguya. (I say probably because I haven't rewatched it yet.)

For something obscure, Song of the Sea and Persepolis were pretty good. I guess you could count Waltz with Bashir, but it feels like cheating, since they just manipulated photography. Fantastic Planet is kinda neat.

Satoshi Kon released some good movies before his far too early death, though nothing I'd rate above a 7/10. Some of Kawajiri's movies (Ninja Scroll, Wicked City) are entertaining, but not too good. Akira is one of my favorite sci-fi movies and Angel's Egg is beautiful.
What do you think of the works of Ralph Bakshi?

I'll give you three of my recent favourites. For some reason they are all French:

A Town Called Panic
A comedy made through the animation of little lead toys. The story kicks off with Horse's birthday. Cowboy and Indian decide to build him a BBQ pit as a present, but accidentally order 50 million more bricks than they need. What follows is a clusterfuck of a movie with kungfu scientists, giant robot penguins, thieving frogmen, and [link=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ft7-yG35Ugw]the loudest farmer in the world.[/url]

Kirikou and the Sorceress
A baby is born who, on the moment of coming out the womb, starts a conversation with his own mum. This is Kirikou, a weirdly gifted boy who becomes the hero of an African folk story. His village is beset by a sorceress, who sort of resembles Maleficent but with bigger tits. She's the coolest looking villain I've seen in an animated movie and she takes shit from no one.

April and the Extraordinary World
Styled after classic French comic books, April is set in an alternative vision of 1930s France, where all the major scientists have gone into hiding, and the nation is in perpetual smog from constant coal fires. It's a fun little action adventure that is a must watch for anyone who is a fan of the stories of Adele Blanc Sec.

I'm pretty partial to Rango, I'd even rank it among my favorite westerns (but distinctly behind Tombstone and [i[Unforgiven[/i].

Huh, Fire and Ice got a mention just 20 min ago.

Well, anyway, I'd not say it was in the category of best, but as most of the best were taken already I thought I'd mention it. Does it count as animated since it was mostly traced, though?

Well, Ghibli aside, Wallace and Gromit, especially The Wrong Trousers. A penguin disguises itself as a chicken by putting a rubber glove on it's head. Brilliant.

Iron Giant was better than any Disney movie I've ever seen.

Zootopia came close though.

Gotta mention Cats Don't Dance.

Set in 1930s Hollywood with a gloriously jazzy soundtrack to match, this is the poignant but hilarious story of optimistic go-getter Danny whose dreams of stardom hit a snag as he is subjected to heavy racial prejudice and typecasting. (He is a cat.)

The underlying message stays strong throughout, but does nothing to mar the furiously fast-paced story with its endless barrage of sight gags and energetic dialogue.

Incidentally, this was one of the very first projects to involve Lauren Faust! She worked as an assistant animator, most notably on female lead Sawyer.

At the top of my head, my personal favourite non Disney and anime film would be The Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea
I think this is the only time I had shown interest to toward Christian religon as the film based on a reglion book called Book of Kell. Also bits of the film had a cool stian glass window effect.
In saying so however if you are Christian then you may find it offensive somehow? I shown the trailer to my mate who is religious and she was offended by the girl in the trailer cos she is a pagen spirit. I would really like someone to explain to me why she is offended by a pagen spirit since for now, I guessing pegan is not Christian?
Done by the same guys who did Kells and this one based on Irish foklore. The girl in this film is soo cute and the song she sang was great too. Both films has great songs sang by the female lead!

Well, fuck me with a pitch fork, madoka was actually on the oscars list.

No surprise there. Contrary to popular belief, critics actually like safe films that don't challenge them at all. Francis Ford Coppola talked about this at length.

Thief and the cobbler was a childhood favorite of mine, and beautifully animated if in a peculiar style, especially the chase through the palace which is by far the best running through optical illusions that have ever seen.
Watership down as mentioned above
Road to El Dorado and Quest For Camelot also fond childhood memories

Whatever, just wash your hands.
How the hell has only one person mentioned Paranorman? That movie is a masterpiece.

Also Kubo and the two strings is really good, although it kinda fumbles the ending a bit.
