It's the same with First-Person-Shooters or 4X games.Eldarion said:The defining trait is the battle system? Not the fact that they are Japanese role playing games? Doesn't that sound a little backwards?tanis1lionheart said:Yes, FFT = S/TRPG or Strategy Role Playing Game or Tactics Role Playing Game.Eldarion said:Wait it isn't? So is final fantasy tactics a jrpg? Whats a SRPG/TRPG? Are you making this up?:Otanis1lionheart said:Disgaea really isn't a 'JRPG', it's a SRPG or TRPG.![]()
It has to do with how you play the game, the way the battle system is made really.
Bah, arbitrary terminology sucks. I'm gonna call them.........uh.......I don't know.
Just because a FPS is made in Japan doesn't mean you call it a JFPS or if you have an Action/Adventure (A/A) game you don't call it a JA/A (for Japan) or an AA/A (for America) or an EA/A (for Europe).
JRPGs tend to be VERY Japanese.
They reference or are set in very Asian environments with stories and battle systems that fit a certain 'Japanese way' of thinking and acting.
The characters also tend to look like they're Asian.
