Best non-playable character

You've seen em in the previews or on the front cover and always thought, corr woulding mind playing as ee, and then to much dissapointment you can't, tough shit isn't it?

well mine would have to be cole in gears of war, i mean if im playing a game full of OTT muscular steroid soilders, i want a decent character no?

I would say Barney Calhoun, but he's problematic given that an identically named character who also happened to have been a BM security guard served as the playable character in Gear Box's Blue Shift expansion pack.

Other than that quibble, he's totally the best NPC I know of in any game.

Giga Bowser in SSBM. he's in brawl, which is good, but when i first fought him, ganondorf and mewtwo in event 51 he was a bastard to beat and i really hoped he would be a playable character but to much disappointment he wasnt.

time-splitters never had this problem, im preety sure every character was playable in multiplayer anyway..

Khelgar Ironfist, the little dwarf fighter you meet early on in Neverwinter Nights 2.

So awesome. I guess you technically could play a dwarf fighter and aspire to be a monk, but there's no spoken dialogue by your character, and you just write the backstory and never see it again. There's just no character there, just an unnamed force in the form of some elf or something.
