Of all time?

Hard to say, I have had fun is a lot of different games for a lot of different reasons. Here are my picks from a couple of different categories.

FPS:

Overall cooperation of a large group of people worldwide with a single goal: World War II online/Planetside (tie)

Fragging good times w/ teamwork and a ranking up system that is completely free: Wolfenstein: ET

Best in show: Battlefield 2 (PC)

Flavor of the moment: Team Fortress 2 (PC)

Oldies but still Goodies: Battlefield 1942 and vCoD/CoD:UO

Prospects I am most looking forward too that should be good giving the companies track record of enjoyable multi-player experiences(2142 does not exists in my book): Battlefield Heroes/ Battlefield 1943 (tie)

Non-FPS:

Good times had by a large community only to be stabbed in the back and shunned by the developers: Star Wars Galaxies (yes I am still bitter by the combat upgrade and new game experience) ((Jump to Lightspeed was a gem that kept me coming back for a while))

The above stated could be considered my from best to worst, and a shining example of a game that is over developed.

EDIT: Updated list. Still thinking on this subject.

Battlefield 1942 or Team Fortress 2.

Edit:Worst? Counter-Strike:Source cause I have a deep hate for flash bombs.

Does stuff like World of Warcraft count? In that case...
It was funny, meeting buds and doing instances, until I realised that being level 80 isnt fun, it only takes you sitting playing it 5 hours a day becuse your constantly asked to boost and join instances you've already ran through 1 billion times.

I think Warhammer Online has a good chance to be big if we give it time to evolve more? Doubt it will beat the fun of painting these with a big, ice cold glass of Coca-Cola http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c137/tensions/slaanesh/daemonette1.jpg

Quakeworld. It had solid net code at a time when a 56k modem was the best most people could hope for.

If you ignore factors such as laggy servers and people who glitch etc. then I think Condemned 2 had the best multi-player, it was ingenious but let down by poor servers that caused lag and frequent disconnects.

I recently got L4D and find that great too, although how fun it is usually depends on how competent your team is (Watching a team-mate completely ignore you while being pounced by a hunter less than 2 metres away gets tiresome very quickly).

Definitely Warcraft 3. I mean, think about it: when you quit a game, I'd take a shot in the dark and say that it was because you were bored of that particular game. But with Warcraft 3, when you quit one game, there's dozens of different ones to choose from, and that's not even counting the vanilla meele multiplayer, which is pretty good too.
But besides that, close seconds would have to include Empire Earth and Company of Heroes.

For PC Im totally going with World of Warcraft and Battlefield 2 or 1942
For gaming systems Halo was definitely the birth of the online multiplayer craze Call of Duty is also a great one!

Fear, Fear 2 and Left 4 Dead. Although it makes a difference when you find a good group to play with. A bunch of crybabies and jerkwads can ruin any good online game experience. And if you are playing DM or the likes you really can't just play with the same people all the time since you get to know thier tactics after a while and it becomes as exciting as fighting the AI.

I quite enjoy the search button's online multiplayer, actually.
In all seriousness, I like Left 4 Dead's Multiplayer. Playing as a zombie is awesome and playing as humans is fun most of the time(except when people glitch...)RAGE!

Gears of War 2 thats the best Im at
You know, GoW2 is a fun game, but the Matchmaking SUCKS so freaking bad. Once you get in the game? No problem. Getting into the game? I hated it. It took forever. And then it only lasted a few round and then Boom, gotta wait forever all over again.

Ugh.

On topic: My favourite online experiences were with Quake 2 and the Lithium MODs. Nothing like runes and an off-hand grapple to turn Quake 2 into a jumping grapple fest of hilarity.

What you said, is correct. COD4 is my fave with Gears2 and L4D close behind. I've been playing some LBP online and most people on there are tards and get me killed. But it is hard to be mad because those sackboys/girls are just so damn cute.
