My personal favourite.

Jade Empire
You Sensei is really the emperors brother who used you in his plans to take the throne back
I agree Jade Empire had a great twist including:
That throughout the game every opponent you beats says that there is a discernible flaw in your technique but no one can exploit it except your sensei. So he not only trained you to kill his brother but also made sure he could kill you without any problems.

But personally The Walking Dead game, more specifically Episode 4 (warning heavy spoilers):

Clementine has just been taken/run away at the end of the episode and you go outside to try to find her, when you find her walkie-talkie you get attacked by one Walker, it seems like no big deal but you find out that Lee/you have been bitten by a Walker. It's just so insanely unpredictable and it shocked me so much considering all you've been through.
There are of course some things you see coming and you know things are gonna get worse or that somebody will help you along and almost every zombie jump scare is predictable (except those that are kind of random and not that logical, like the one in ep4 with the TV).

But then there's lots of times when I couldn't have guessed some things are gonna happen and when you think about it, they were more than logical, but you were just busy with thinking about other stuff...that's the kind of twists that keep reactions realistic and understandable.
The example at end of 4th episode that you wrote is the perfect example, it could've happened before in the series, but now it had the perfect timing and I really didn't think it could happen till it happened, just because so much else was happening.

Indeed, I was pleasantly surprised at how many twists there are in this game(s), almost as much as the dragging out of their publishing schedule. I'm also surprised at how much I don't hate the characters or how almost no stupid/unreasonable actions are made.

Portal 2 and KotOR ones?

Called them before they happened.

Planescape: Torment is 1 giant plot twist.

You could dedicate an own thread just to discuss which of Torment's plot twists is the greatest.
Yeah, they keep coming back for more, though once you see the pattern, you can predict that there is going to be another twist...but when it comes it still leaves you minblown. Anyway,a couple of mine.

Imoen being a Bhaalspawn herself. It didn't really come as a "suprise", the hints where there, but it was one of those where you go "Nah..." but it happens anyway.

Omen Deng being on your side. After that, figuring out that Scarlet was the real assassin isn't that difficult, but without Deng's involvement that one would have been a doozy too. And let's not forget that if you don't play your cards right you might not ever find out that Surkov was the real bad guy in Moscow after all. And Madison being Parker's daughter. Gotta hand it to AP, it does have a few twists.

Zia wasn't kidnapped, and Rucks was even more personally involved in the Calamity than one might suspect.

For all the pretentiousness of this one, it does have a neat twist. Problem is, it can't decide what it wants the twist to be.

The strict-yet-mild-mannered village elder is actually Dark Gaia. And you are the closest thing that world has to a true god.

Ikutsuki. Just...I mean, sure he seemed fishy from the beginning, but I wouldn't suspect him to be that much of a nihilist.

And honorable mention:

Whenever Kane doesn't pop up five minutes after being allegedly killed.

Sylvarant's pilgrimage of World Regeneration is actually a campaign to destroy Tethe'alla. And vice versa.

It's gotta be Gemini Rue for me.

The two character's stories are not happening simultaneously. Delta Six and Azrael are the same person.

I have never been more shocked at a game than in Bioshock. It made me reconsider what it meant ot be a character in a video game, and since that day I have a running narrative in my head no matter what game I'm playing, to make my actions mesh with the world around me.

But for all those people talking about Portal 2... what about the original?

After the final test chamber, you discover that Glados intended to incinerate you, and has killed all the other human in the facility. Why is this so awesome? Because prior to this moment, you had very little clue that there was even a story in this game! You thought it was just a simple physics puzzler and are happy you've beaten it when oh no storyline. Every good twist in Portal 2 stems from that one moment where they took it to the next level.

Ikutski is a back-stabbin' sonofabitch. And the 12 full-moon shadows were created so that Nyx/Ryoji wouldn't be released.

Adachi is the murderer. Who knew?

Jeffery is Super Hero Aurum in disguise. He built Mao to become an even more powerful Overlord than his father. Once Mao can kill his father, Aurum will kill Mao in order to gain his popularity back.

Yes exactly, in the early episodes I didn't really like Kenny very much but closer to the end I've realized how much he is like my family now and we've got each others backs.

All in all it's an amazing game which I recommend to anyone who wants a game with an exceptional story and characters.

At first I thought the whole story was a massive Final Fantasy X rip off. Go to Temple, do puzzle, main female character should die at the end. But then the whole Tethe'alla thing hit, and I was like. woooo!

Most of the great ones have been named, but I did always enjoy this one too.
Your whole campaign in Northrend, killing Arthas' high ranking officers, and him boosting on how you're insignificant.
At first it seems that Arthas is doing the whole terribly underestimating the player and will be shocked at how strong you are in the end before you kill him.

But it's totally not the case, he's training you, he's leading the best of the best towards him in order to crush them and make them his own. And he almost succeeds.
Only, and ONLY, because Tirion Fordring shows up with the now Blessed Ashbringer the players are saved from eternal serving the One True King in Undeath.

Uhm a lot of the ones I would say have been taken, like Bioshock, KoToR and Final fantasy, so I guess I'll say something else but something that was really good...
Both of them, where it turns out you're actually a human who's been turned into a human and in the first one where the pokemom try to kill you because they think your what's causing the end of the world or the second one where it turns out your from the future, such good games!

Turns out your best friend is the prince of the moon kingdom and that he brought you into their world, implanted fake memories of you two being best friends so that when it came time to act and save the world you would. Also at the end where the Diva is restoring the world and you get sucked back into your world and your friend can't save you, sad :(

Yep Infamous, I kind of saw it coming but that one is by far the best.
How in the world could you see that coming? It was totally out of left field.[/quote]
If you collect the dead drops then you can potentially realise that Sasha wasn't just spouting off random psychotic bullshit during the fight. That's really the only hint iirc though.

(OI SPOILERS)i don't know how to use spoiler tags but don't read this if you haven't played the game)
it did kinda spoil the game for me when i realized (through acts 1-3 anyway) that kenny is the only one worth being nice to as everyone else get's fucked

I'm a bit surprised no one mentioned Star Ocean 3's plot twist yet:
Our universe turns out to be an MMO run and played by Fourth-Dimensional Beings.
Yeah that one kind of threw me for a loop. First time I got to that part I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't that.
