Theres sooo much more i could list but here is a little bit of everything without trying to repeat what some ppl have already said. if you hear anything you like from anyone on this list my advice is to not only grab what you can from said artist, but also see who they have done songs with, share a label with, etc. that way you really find out what type of rap you like and hone in on it

Whatever album featured "Rapper's Delight"

That is the only good rap song I think I've heard.

Eminem: The Slim Shady LP, The Marshall Mathers LP, and the Eminem Show (That being said, he's my favorite artist and I love all his stuff, so I might just be biased here - I definitely think The Eminem Show was the best one, though)

Dr. Dre: 2001 (Absolutely stuff-full of classics)

D12: Devil's Night

Jay-Z: The Black Album

Kanye West: College Dropout

The Game: The Documentary

50 Cent: Get Rich or Die Tryin' (I know, I know - but you can't argue with the fact that it was an extremely wellproduced and polished album)

DMX: Grand Champ

Proof: Grown Man Shit, Searching For Jerry Garcia

Xzibit: Restless

2Pac: Some sort of greatest hits album

On top of that, I can only agree with all those that mentioned Wu-Tang, Nas, B.I.G. and OutKast above. Go get 'em!

The best? That question is kind of subjective but the ones who i have enjoyed the most are:

Kanye West - My Beatiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

OR

Eminem - The Eminem Show

OR

Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle

Those 3 are my babies, i cannot choose between them. Doggystyle actually has small skits between the songs and pretends to be a session at a radio station so i'd imagine it'd fit well in a car.

Celph Titled - The Gatalog

Jedi Mind Tricks - Violent By Design

Extendet F@mm - Happy Fuck You Songs

And ofc

Army of the Pharaos - all 3 albums

Mos Def - Black on Both sides (just youtube it if you don't know him already (doubt that though ;P) most vids are blocked here)

I've been listening to a lot of Kid Cudi recently, so I'll go with Man on the Moon.

Alive is awesome.

So I have recently decided to expand apon my musical taste and the types of musical genres I listen to. I've currently been listening to a bit of rap, and was wondering what you guys think is the best rap album out there (I'm old fashion and prefer to listen to whole CDs in my car). So Escapist what is the best rap album ever?
Here are a few classics and modern classics to get you started.

Illmatic by Nas
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West
Ready to Die by Biggie Smalls
Sir Lucious Left Foot by Big Boi
ATliens by Outkast
I love you I feel that its a crime that Sir Lucious Left Foot is never mentioned when it comes to amazing modern day rap albums.

OT: Other modern day albums to have a listen to are

St Elsewhere by Gnarles Barkley
Man on The Moon by KiD CuDi
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West
Demon Days by the Gorillaz
Only Built For Cuban Linx Part 2 By Raekwon

Classical Albums

36 Chambers: Enter The Wu-Tang - Wu-Tang Clan
When Disaster Strikes by Busta Rhymes
The Coming also by Busta Rhymes
Liquid Swords by The GZA
Muddy Waters by Redman

Those are just the one's of the top of my head maybe i'll add more later

Deltron 3030, self-titled album, an epic rap-opera, of sorts.

Here, just listen to this, the first track from that strange dystopia.
