You know that wars can and have been started for all kinds of reasons, territory/land, money, power, revenge, oil, some royal somebody not marrying some other royal somebody as Daddy wanted etc.
So what in your opinion is the best or most worthwhile reason to start a war?
(not saying wars are great things to start,so you had better have a good reason)

Boredom and a surplus of ammunition.
In my case, at least.

That, or because your nation was attacked first, in a serious way.
Then you are allowed to go and kick the crap out of the instigator

That is the best reason to do anything.

For the Motherland

OT: I'm not really the type to start any kind of war or fighting, so I guess I'll have to agree with Neonbob and say if I'm attacked. You mess with me, the gloves are off.

None. Few concieveable if any reasons to start a war. Only acceptable way to get invovled in a war is to finish it.

I would think this would be obvious.
Given a brief looking over history there are only three primary reasons for starting a war
1 - over your imaginary friend (god)
2 - because they look / act different than you (race)
3 - paper invoking the name of your imaginary friend on it (money)

the reasons become mushed and blurred by a million things, but that is basically the root of every war.

Strangely enough, freedoms are the first thing that go out the window whenever a war starts.

Seriously, in the modern world there is no good reason to start wars, because everybody but a select group of wealthy and powerful people loses because of them.

Hmmm, I'd imagine that if I were an executive of a military contractor, ANY reason would be good, including 'they looked at me funny'.

Don't forget that some leaders wage wars not to gain more power, but to keep the power they currently have. Their term in office is coming to an end, support is dropping, uprisings... leaders see these, decide martial law would keep their streets in order, and start a war to try and raise support.

... To protect another country, I guess?
I mean, if someone starts attacking other countries, you should probably step in and help the one you think is in the right.
Which, in my opinion, would more often than not be the poor nation being kicked around by the rich nation.
Help that fucker out. Sometimes it's better for everyone involved to, y'know, tell the bully to fuck off.

I came across a quote somewhere about that:

"Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity".

I don't know said it, though.

I'd start a war with Sweden, just to see what they'd do.
