Best Retro Game Ever?

In that case, I'd say Link to the Past.

i agree. im proud to say i remember when Link to the Past came out. i will never again get that feeling, opening that box, switching on my SNES, and being immersed in the wonderful world of Hyrule. 'sigh' good times. Ocarina of Time was an amazing game, but i just didnt get tat same feeling. i cant really explain it, but making the series better on paper took away some of its soul.

Lunar, the Silver Star. I'd recommend you play the newer version Lunar: Silver Star Story. Also, though it wasn't pre-1994, the incredibly awesome sequel Lunar 2 (again, go with the Eternal Blue Complete version)

Worms.

Used to play it for hours upon end, was a game that young children right up to old folks could enjoy. Made easy by turn based multi-player, my family had many argument break out over it.

"Retro" doesn't mean what you think it means. You are asking about good old games. Retro games are new games in the style of old ones, or old ones being played for nostalgia instead of quality.

And in response, like all very open-ended "best of" queries, the question is nonsensical. At the very least you have to go by genre. There's no way to compare apples and oranges such as a platformer and a shoot'em up to come up with one "best" game.
