Oblivion, or Grandia for JRPGs. Maybe Chrono Cross, or Legend of Mana. Or even Wild Arms 2.

I remember that game, and I still have it. I liked it, but the story had me confused at times.

My favourite is Deus Ex. It blew me away. Aside from that, Golden Sun, I played that game for years. I got it from my younger brother, played it to completion, and then passed it on.

Final Fantasy series. Individual numbers differ amongst people but in general FF wins.
My vote goes to VII although VIII was not bad and I do like XII's battle system.

The Bard's Tale: hilariously quirky dialogue, and a brilliant storyline. Also, best neutral ending in any game I've played, ever.

Drunk dancing zombies win. Well, its better than most games :\

Also, Parasite Eve was a great JRPG wracked by bad dialogue and a somewhat confusing storyline. Still, the weapons-creation aspect worked like a charm, and the characters are unforgettable, in my opinion. Sad that the sequel took the polluted and over-used Resident Evil path, though there's a third game on the way *fingers crossed and hoping >.<*

EDIT: System Shock 2. 'Nuff said.
