I have the GOTY of Morrowind and it's still the best game I ever played.
I don't know if it's the easy mod program or the atmospheric world.
in morrowind I did 1 quest and I had the feeling there were a hundred others, oblivion is also a good RPG but a little bit to much user-friendly.

Warcraft 3. Does it count? Please! PLEASE! Noooooooooooo...
Warcraft ought to count. I mean it had aspects of RPGs... Sort of. And it had Multiplayer RPGs with save/load systems. So yeah.

Diablo series (second one favorite RPG of ALL TIME), Fallout series (Third one favorite), The Elder Scrolls series (Morrowind favorite, prolly my first RPG). If Mount&Blade Warband counts as some hybrid then I'll say that too. I could mention Jade Empire, it had a pretty nice story and characters...

Well if Warcraft 3 counts too, then Warlords Battlecry 3 should be eligible too, so I'll add that to my list. Hold on a sec, then even Heroes of Might & Magic 3,4 and 5 would count! It too had "sort of" RPG elements...

Deus Ex: Invisable War

It was the first game to sell me on both a fictional universe and the plot contained therein while still delivering solid gameplay and some measure of player involvement with the character through a decent amount of meaningful customization.

Oblivion, Fable, Fallout, Mass Effect, these all fell short of the model set by this last-gen game because while excelling in the setting, or the narrative, or the gameplay, or simply on the customization they did not excell in all areas without becoming a forgetable generalist.

If Mass Effect 2 counts, then that!

Followed by KotOR and Vagrant Story in third.

I also have a soft spot for little known Sega Saturn RPGs, Grandia and Mystaria

Baldur's Gate 2.

I've loved all of Bioware's stuff, really. Oh, and Deus Ex, if that counts.
