I'm rewatching this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Family_of_Blood

Holy moly. I can't think of any Sci Fi TV Show, anywhere, ever, on TV that can match this in depth, scope, emotion, concept. Simply staggering.

Can you match it? Not a series. An episode.

I look forward to your input.

Odd choice. I'd say that isn't the best ep in that series, let alone ever. It's not even the best ep out of it and the next ep, which happens to be "Blink".

(Helps that "Blink" is a good episode (which loads of fans agree with), and IMHO, Family of Blood really is not)

Blink the one with the Angels? Reviewing. That one, I have to concede, is about the last time I can think where I was actually scared from a TV show. It still does not have the emotional resonance of the one I posted but very good.

EDIT: LOL, that's apparantly the very next epiode! Awesome but not quite as good IMHO.

Blink was the first appearance of the angels, yeah, and the last appearance of them that was scary.

When the Game of Thrones dude was in a headlock by one of them, I thought that pretty great. And I love that the Statue of Liberty turned into one of them. But like the Cybermen, Who did water down what they were. Still, you are right. Blink is an amazing episode. Watching it now.

I have a few problems with The Family of Blood (and Human Nature)

Firstly, the Doctor has decided the best place to go hide out with his black companion is in 1913 Britain, so she can get a job scrubbing floors while he's a teacher? Um...

Also, did not like Martha falling in love with the Doctor. Just had a series of Rose blathering on about him, looked like Martha would be a proper companion and skip all that, but no.

There was a message about not killing in there. It is morally wrong to kill aliens if that is the only way to prevent them from destroying the entire world (NuWho likes this sort of thing). Again, this was in 1913.

The way the aliens were defeated involved them not caring at all that the Doctor is on their spaceships pressing various buttons on their control panels.

For my money, it's hard to beat "Best of Both Worlds" from Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Back when the Borg were unstoppable and terrifying instead of pushover mooks (I'm looking at you, Voyager).

Not only is the episode itself spectacular, but it also marks the point where the show became consistently good, at least for me (except the Troi episodes. Those always sucked...with the possible exception of "Face of the Enemy").

I don't know if it's the best or if such a thing even exists, but "Passion" from Buffy the Vampire Slayer was one of the first to give me chills.

With Dr. Who people always forget the "Girl in the Fireplace". Which for me is easily the best episode in the series.
Star Trek: the original series also had some amazing episodes like "City of the Edge of Forever".
The Next Generation the best episodes would ether be, "The Inner Light" or what I believe to be the best Sci-Fi TV show episodes to date, "Best of Both Worlds Parts 1&2"

If I was going to pick what I thought was one of the best Sci-Fi Episodes ever. Series Finale of Star Trek: TNG. "All Good Things..." the two part episode. Perfectly bookended the series. And was just good TV. I'd say even if I was to make a top ten list of Sci Fi Episodes I'm sure TNG would take up a hefty number of them.

Crackers Don't Matter is the best episode.

"NOBODY HAS MARGARITA SHOOTERS WITH PIZZA!"
"I?m not deficient. I?m superior! Humans are SUPERIOR!"

Though the 'nuclear deterrent' stunt was also quite nice, as was the wily coyote ep.

The Body from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Not only the best sci. fi./fantasy episode, it is simply the best television episode ever. You don't even need to see any other episode in the series to understand what is going on. It's a beautiful, heart-breaking, depressing, you-are-there TV episode. I can't think of any other show that have an episode that comes close to it.

Code of the hero episode of Beast Wars.

You guys probably know why.

As well as the Transmutate episode.

"The Body" is the only episode of anything that has ever made me cry. Though for sheer spectacle "Innocence" is the best Buffy episode, otherwise known as "That time when Buffy used a rocket launcher to kill an indestructable demon."

EDIT; I'm surprised nobody has put forth any Firefly episodes yet. I propose both "Objects in Space" and "Ariel" for your consideration.

Genesis of the Daleks, because you finally see the inhuman little monster responsible for them.
