I'm sure this has come up before, but I want to know what everyone's favorite Sci-Fi show is. Sorry if this topic just came up and I missed it, or something like that.

I would have to say that Stargate: SG-1 is my favorite. Don't get me wrong, I love most of the star trek shows. TNG and DS9 would rank 2nd and 3rd on my list (followed by SG:Atlantis). There are probably a dozen other shows that people would rank above SG-1. The thing that sets it above the rest for me is how fun it is to watch. its kind of hard for me to pin down what I think it does better over other shows, but I think its the fact that the earth in Stargate is supposed to be our world (like 1997). So over the course of the show, we get to see earth advance form current technology to having a fleet of spaceships that were built on earth. Most Sci-fi shows don't really have much in the way of actual advancement in the technology. I guess I just like my Sci-fi to be fun, instead of gritty and realistic. I know I'm probably in the minority here, but it does have 10 seasons and one good spin off show. All it needed was the space combat from the new BSG.

I am a slight Firefly fanboy, but I also enjoy SG-1 greatly. I enjoyed the first few seasons of Atlantis. I also enjoyed Babylon 5 when I watched that through, but most recently I have to say that I really enjoyed the new Battlestar, Caprica seems alright and I am watching that at the moment.

So yeah, taking Firefly out I'd say my favourite are SG-1 and BSG.

Right now, it's Star Trek: Deep Space Nine for me. It holds the same quality of The Next Generation, while also adding a persistent continuity and character development, since everything is sequential and builds upon what comes before.

If we're talking just TV shows, then definately Firefly for me. If we're including animated shows too then i have a penchance for outlaw star, cowboy bebop and Star Wars: Clone Wars.

Never watched Battlestar, heard it was pretty good though, i might have to look it up over the summer.

I would say Star Trek TNG. I loved the characters and some of the episodes are mind blowingly deep at times.
TNG and DS9 are on equal footing for me. They both present a very distinct and yet fundamentally different interpretation of Gene's vision. The Next Generation represents the very ideal of the Federation, as a utopian society that had moved past prejudice and hardship to build something truly great. The Enterprise's crew were the best and brightest, led by the very model of a starfleet officer.

If TNG focused on the ideal of the Federation, then DS9 focused on the reality. The utopia of the Federation faces hardships both within and without, and while it is an admirable aspiration to be like the model crew of the Enterprise, the reality is that such a goal is difficult to achieve without conflict and hardships. Particularly striking me is the barrier the Federation faces with Bajor and their religion based society. Facing people who have yet to pass over the threshold that the Federation has achieved causes friction, and it is never as easy to maintain the utopia as it seems.

Because of that, I tend to lean towards DS9, but I still love TNG. TNG shows the ideal endpoint of humanity, while DS9 follows the difficult path we walk to get there.

Seasons 1-7 of Stargate SG-1. I really liked that show. If had to give a reason why i'd say proabably because it was funny. It realized what it was doing was kinda goofy, and just reinforced the suspension of disbelief by havin the characters remark it was goofy.
Star Trek TNG and firefly rank high as well. Firefly just isn't long enough for me to really invest in the characters. Movie was awesome though. Star Trek TNG, it's good, really good, but i just can't binge on it. Especially on something like netflix where i can choose the episode. It's somehting i have to catch on TV.

Probably shows like Firefly and Doctor Who... though I'd like to get more into shows such as Farscape, Babylon 5 and Red Dwarf...

Definitely SG-1, the Goa'uld are the badassiest badass in the galaxy.
(The Wraiths were also pretty cool, admittedly...)

Dr Who, Torchwood and Firefly are the only sci-fi shows I can think of that I've ever really watched. All were/are good.

Star Trek TNG because it's what good sci-fi is about: what if scenarios and questions about humanity and our role in the universe. It has some of the best episode of any series like Inner Light, Yesterday's Enterprise and First Contact. We need a new Star Trek series now!

Also Fringe, because it's better than X-Files IMO and the characters are amazing, especially Walter Bishop! Also I'm glad it's getting a proper ending.

I'm yet to check Battlestar Galactica and Eureka. I heard Farscape is good too.

Not exactly. I don't know what channels you got, but there was a significant overlap between Deep Space Nine and Voyager for about four years. Sadly you watched the poor end of the spectrum.

I'm not bashing Voyager entirely, since it has some really great episodes, but compared to DS9, it was just lacking anything. Where DS9 built up a long, overarching story, Voyager kept hitting the reset button as they continued to search for a way home.

The only Sci-fi show I've ever followed is Doctor Who, and it was glorious.
