What in your opinion is the best Sci-Fi and why. We can't just know your opinion and not know why now can we ;) It can be a movie, T.V. show, or cartoon/ anime as long as it's have the Sci-Fi feel or image. But NO video games!

Mine is The Twilight Zone. Seriously just about anything Sci-Fi can be linked back to TZ. Usually it is close to a carbon copy of an episode, it has that Twilight Zone feel to it, or the material used in it is copied. Also Twilight Zone is such a classic and great series. It's the best out of everything.

Warhammer 40k. It has war and excessive violence. Just google "space marine" and you will see.

Dr. Who.
/thread

Just kidding! I love Dr. Who because it's British and anything that is British is better than American. I think the original TZ was British, too...

I would have to say warhammer 40,000 because it's a much darker look at out future and Dr.who because I've always like time travel as a plot device and the writings just so great

I'm a huge fan of the stargate series. I can't wait until they launch Stargate Universe this fall. It touched briefly on astro physics and the science behind long distance space travel, but also I loved how the world they created was deeply seeded in the mythologies of different cultures (Norse, Egyptian, Greek, European). It's really a great series.

Another all time favorite of mine would be Ghost in the Shell. I love the premise of the cyberized brain, and the boundary between artificial intelligence and sentience. There have been many authors and phillosophers who have predicted an age where technology will transcend biology. Perhaps in our lifetime, we'll see the first cyborgs.

Less list-y, more talk-y, please. (See the way the OP says something about his choices? You should do that, too.)

Stargate is the first hour-long TV series I got into. It is indeed good stuff, though I was never a fan of how each episode was pretty much a stand-alone, X-Files-style.

But my favourite is probably Dune. The world(s) created and the confusing politics and such were incredible, especially since when I read the books I was in seventh grade.
I'll agree that the best episodes of stargate were deffinately the ones that drove the overlying plot of the war agains the Goa'Uld. The stand alone episodes were good, and in fact that was the beauty of the stargate, they could practically open a portal to any kind of scenario you could think of. It was a great way to draw 10 seasons of filler out of 3 story archs.

And even better, it has a wealth of backstory, written by people who not only know what they're talking about, but are good at their jobs. Aside from WH40K:

Stargate is good, but I never got into Atlantis much.

Ender's Game is great.

I always liked Dr. Who,

and the Terminator series has been good, too, hopefully the new one will live up to it's name.

I've always thrown to fantasy over sci fi, but still.

I love the original trilogy of Star Wars, Star Trek:TNG, old and new Doctor Who, but for me, the ultimate sci fi is Barbarella. Oh hellllll yes.

And then five years of Atlantis that was pretty much the same, but with two story arcs.
Still, it was pretty much always entertaining and good and such, and that's all that matters.
Both series had some really talented actors and some really good writing. That's probably why the franchise has been able to carry on for so long. I really hope the new cast/writers can live up to the standard the other 2 series have set.

Speaking of great acting, I forgot to mention Firefly, that was a great series too. You have to respect any sci-fi show which keeps true to the of no sound in a vacuum principal. I just wish it had had a longer run (as does anyone who's watched it). Perhaps I subconsciously hold it in contempt for being so short. Damn you Fox/Whedon.

I really liked Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 because the mix of comedy, action and pretty girls and unlike another mecha related show that's set in 21st century tokyo it's not confusing as hell to understand
I also enjoy Astroboy and like to mix it with Megaman into one supercool universe in my mind.

I also like War of the Worlds (jeff wayne and original not the movies) and also Doctor Who and Torchwood

Firefly too. I like firefly
