Which best series is your favourite ?
GTA is my personal favourite.

Name some more and justify why?

Best series? That's a tricky one.

I'd say either Touhou (likable, if cheerfully psychotic cast, excellent games, and my favourite fighting game to date, plus the amazing music) or Legacy of Kain.

The latter isn't that great as a series of games. That said, the voice acting, dialogue and plot are all incredible.

So yes, one of those. Odd, really. I can think of any number of games that I like, but if it has to be a series, I can hardly come up with any.

Why not start out with justifying your own choice, instead of just asking people to justify theirs?

Anyway, as for me, I'll choose the Half-Life series. The first set up the series with a bang. Puzzles, smart AI, fun weapons, decent graphics and for me a good setup in the story department for setting up the rest of series.

The second game, my favourite of all time is just fantastic. Great atmopshere, great characters an awesome universe and of course G-Man. I recently played through it again and it was just as fun as the first time I played it. Some say the gameplay is meh, but I like it, I like the variation between driving, shooting and solving puzzles. The episodes just deliver more of that.

So there you have it, my reason as to why the Half-Life series is MY favourite of them all.

Either Total War, Elder Scrolls, D&D Forgotten Realms, Mass Effect, Battlefield.
It's a long list I know, but that is edited down, believe me.

Ratchet and Clank.

Every single game in the series is solid gold.

I like the Rock Band series. I'll admit, some were cash-ins, but I love the music a lot, and I love to play them all. Or, I love to play the third one with songs from the rest of em. My favorite games are individuals of separate franchises, but some have been a bit destroyed with their sequels (I'm looking at you, Tony Hawk).

Gears of War is one of the best so far. They perfected the third-person with cover-based shooter. With great gameplay, weapons, characters and an enticing story, there will always be a special place in my heart for Gears of War.

Total War

It's a smooth blend of TBS and RTS that I just happen to be very good at.
It's always had issues but it seems like in Shogun II they finally managed to sort them all out without adding more.

Halo. Hands down. The story may not be 100% original, but it is masterfully told and very intricate. Add to that some of the most balanced and fun multiplayer that gaming has to offer and viola. Best series Ever.

Mario.

Mario games have defined and redefines platformers for decades. And if you want to widen the view a bit they have some great RPG-ish games in the RPG, Paper, and Mario & Luigi. And widening even more gets you some of the greatest party games and casual racers.

Pretty soon it will be the Arkham Assylum serries if all goes well with the sequel,

Both Bioshock games were great fun, the sequel wasnt as powerful as the first but hey, bishock 1 would have been a damn hard act to follow.

The Hitman series, even though there are issues with the games that havnt been dealt with since Hitman 1.

It took this long for someone to mention Mario? Meh, now I get to! (edit: Ninja'd. Damn.)

Iconic characters, solid mechanics, the games pretty much write the books on both 2D and 3D platforming level design, music that has become immortal, one of the few series that genuinely understands what the hell a "learning curve" is, and above all else, has consistent quality in every game for over 20 years.

And that's just counting the platformers.

Baldur's Gate.

Because it was exceptionally good; had some of the best stories and characters I've ever seen in games; breathed new life into the western RPG, with the sequel being judged one of the best RPGs ever made; they still hold up well today; and, last but not least, because it knew when to end.

... because of it's story, strategy, enemies, music and it's creativity to break the fourth wall.

Also the Silent Hill Series. Because of the overall design, music direction, story, puzzles and its scaryness.

Parasite Eve, for its strategy (weapons, magic, active time), great FMV's for the time, design, replay value.
