WaW on max difficulty on the 360 controller was just suffering for me. It was a good pain though. I enjoyed running to the one piece of cover in the room and having 8 grenades thrown at me at once with literally no possibility of survival in most of the maps.

The bank robbery mission in the first Kain and Lynch. The cool part about that mission is that it was inspired by the bank shootout/running gun battle in Heat.

Payday The Heist and Payday 2 revolve around being movie shootout scenes. Payday The Heist is way better at capturing the moments, but Payday 2 is starting to remember what made the heists so memorable.

Shoot, all the heists in Payday The Heist are my favorite. Street shootouts in Heat Street, blowing up bridges to disrupt a prison envoy in Green Bridge, sawing an agent out of a cooking limo in Undercover, lifting a gang safehouse out of its foundation in Panic Room, and stealing gold from an ambushed transport in Slaughterhouse are my favorite. I'm giving an extra mention to Hoxton Breakout and Big Bank in Payday 2. My favorite of the bunch likely is Hoxton Breakout just because Payday 2 has better team dynamics and gunplay, with Slaughterhouse being a close second.

There are a ton of great moments in Red Dead Revolver, I loved that game.

Chapter 6 "A Dame, a Dork, and a Drunk" from Max Payne 3 is the only one I know by name. I enjoy the hideout raids from RDR, the bounty hunting mission in Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction, pretty much every level of Black (except the final one), the latter shooter levels in RE4 & RE5...

Ooohh I forgot about Black. Mixed reviews from a lot of places, but taken in as just a popcorn shooter it was a great experience.

Airport Shootout in Max Payne 3. What a great moment. Epic music, huge environment, lots of enemies, bring it on. The best is when you never take cover and just shootdodge and roll around during that shootout. If you ask me though, that part should have occurred at the very end of the level, as a way to close the curtains. It was a big disappointment when I finished that amazing shootout and then some generic music started playing.

Hm...let me think of some of my favorite moments...

Resident Evil 4. Holding that house. So. Many. Not-zombies.

World at War. That mission where you storm the beach. "It's the coral! We're stuck on the co--(bullet through the head)"

MW2. Jeez, that whole game was packed with some good ones, but I think it's a toss up between storming Makarov's house ("Ozone is down! I repeat, Ozone is down!"), retaking the White House, and the first mission where the Russians start dropping into the neighborhood.

Gears of War 2: Jachinto's last stand. When you're running around the city trying to hold it long enough to get everything ready.

Alan Wake: The battle on the sound stage. Whoo, good times right there. Go Barny, go!

Medal of Honor: Frontline - the last level where you are hiding in an ammo dump with tonnes of virtually every weapon (including rocket launchers, grenaders, lmgs etc.) and there are about a hundred spawning Nazis to kill in the valley beyond.

Sniper Elite: V2 The shootout where you have to protect the German Scientist in the Museum from the advancing Russians, and you can set up all the trip mines and booby traps.

And of course the Mausoleum shootout in Halo 2 set to rock music, with hunters and brutes fighting the elites and you are more of an observer than a combatant, but you have to cut your way through.

I also loved the D-Day level at the beginning. On PS2 it seemed so awesome, though it doesn't hold up well today it was still at the time my favorite all-time level to replay.

The Terminal sequence from Max Payne 3.
Running a gauntlet of dozens of enemies while "Tears" by HEALTH plays...
The. Best.

Call of Duty 3: Hill 262.

An epic and desperate last stand in an entrenched position as German forces attack.

Last level of Halo: Reach is the only one that really comes to mind for me right away. One of the few shootouts in a video game to be memorable for something other than simple spectacle or fun factor.

Edit: I also thought the (similar) ending to Red Dead Redemption was great, though it seems a little one-sided on the bullet front to be considered a shootout in the traditional sense.

Seeing as I charged through several of the impossible missions in the lead up to Halloween, I must agree. Once you learn how to do it, some missions become quite tolerable. Plus it creates that rare feeling that you really are fighting for every inch of land you can get.

When you say 'shoot-out' I presume you mean gunbattle, as in 'people shooting at eachother', which unfortunately excludes the cabin sequence from Resident Evil 4.

The broadcasting area in Call of Duty 4 was pretty sweet. There's cubicles and electrics everywhere, and shit just flies all over the place once the lead starts unloading. Probably doesn't look as good now as I remember it though.

Ooooh, what an interesting thread, I must say!

The jail level in Black (Original X-box)

This was a nut-tighteningly awesome scene in an equally awesome game which really shown off just what the original X-box was capable of. Especially when you reach the shower area - where there's so many guys shooting at you and the whole place slowly disintergrates from the sheer amount of hot lead flying around. There was a scene in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Price's rescue) which seemed to borrow from this scene heavily, but it paled in comparrison to Black.
