well I wouldn't say he's the greatest singer ever but I've always loved Chris Cornell's voice.

Which singer do you think is the most skilled in the world? I personally think that Russian singer Vitas [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjO_VXHxsRw&feature=related] is the most talented singer ever.

EDIT: Also, Matt Heafy from Trivium, simply cause he has such a strong voice. He can go from heavy screaming that would break anyone's lungs in 5 seconds, to beautiful 100% clean singing.
Maynard James Keenan. [http://www.videosift.com/video/Mind-Control-the-Jewel-Wasp]

Tarja Turunen.
Agree.
She can do her opera stuff, but otherwise I tink she's pretty limited, the same with...

M. Shadows from Avenged Sevenfold in my opinion
If you listen to Dear God his voice doesn't really suit the country style, he's best sticking to metal, although I do prefer him singing than screaming.

I'm not sure who I'd say as there are so many I have heard and so many I haven't it's impossible to decide.

I prefer Michael Stipe, because even if he isn't the best technical performance, he really pours his heart and soul into his music, and it shows vibrantly.

Aww Gawd damn you, I was going to say Michael Stipe.

Besides, I really don't know any other manly man that can lenghten a tune like he does it in the "Imitation of Life" song.

Also, I've seen their concert on youtube and he looks awesome, dancing, trying to balance on a speaker...

To be honest I can't choose, but for me it would be between Lauryn Hill, Janis Joplin, Ben Harper, Darren Hayes, Cedric Bixler Zavala, Annie Lennox, Nina Simone and Elvis Presley.

I'm big on Thom Yorke from Radiohead. Maynard James Keenan also has a great distinct voice. But if Elliott Smith was still alive then I'd put him on top without question.

Every genre has different demands, but if it's Rock and Roll then I gotta go with Robert Plant.

they're both dead, but for my money it would have to be either freddie mercury or roy orbison.
still living,i guess maybe bono. mick hucknall from simply red is very good, even if simply red are a bit crap. for sheer depth of feeling i suppose ray lamontagne.
basically, i don't know who the best living singer is
