It's that time again. Time for the best system ever. The SNES has a lot of great music. And I thought I would make a topic for people to share what they thought were the absolute greatest of greats from the system.

And go!
There's something very haunting about this song and it sticks with me. It certainly tells you "you've got a dangerous adventure ahead of you... and you're all alone".

I hate to be posting so much downer music, but Final Fantasy IV was an amazing game, full of plenty of tragedy and emotion. And when such tear jerking scene came upon you, this is the song that would play. It's fair to say, whatever criticisms you have for this game, it has one of the most amazing soundtracks of all time.

This song, on the other hand, from the same game, is haunting, because it's SO. INCREDIBLY. BADASS. Golbez wouldn't hardly be as awesome if it weren't for this song. In this era of video games, how many characters had a epic synth pipe organ theme?

The themes from Final Fantasy IV were so classic, they were even included in Super Mario RPG. Remember how amazing and mysterious battle themes even were?

May not be the most complicated song around. It's basically a remix so to speak, if even that, of a... well, it's a bit familiar. But do you remember, just how haunting this song was, when you got to the Cave to the Past? Absolutely unforgettable.

I don't know how to describe this song other than incredibly moody to the point of memorability. It really strikes a chord with me somehow.

I would never expect a simple battle theme, "against a machine", of all things, to be so epic. But as soon as you hear it, against your first fight with a lil' ufo, suddenly, your game picks up, for the more weird and epic. You know something is out there, other than rabid dogs and things. There are otherworldly creatures and machines, and you are an otherworldly voyage.

I don't even need to speak for it. The Chrono Trigger soundtrack speaks for itself.

Super Mario RPG certainly isn't without it's share of good songs.

Who doesn't miss David Wise? If there's anything that can be said about this song, it's that it's one of the most famous and loved classics in all of video gaming. Everyone in the world who has ever heard this song became instantly mesmerized. And memories of this song still strike of many conversations.

And let's not forget the many other tracks that are perfection, the entire soundtrack. One of the few gaming soundtracks, along with Chrono Trigger, that are one amazing, timeless piece after another.

I can't even imagine how many stoners this game and this soundtrack created.

It's not as if the atmosphere of the game was creepy enough...

The X series, too, is not exactly not known, for it's amazing music. If only I could find that one amazing X3 song...

A pure, underloved classic. At times, I feel like this itself, is the theme to my life. Why oh why didn't we get this game normally in the West?

I am currently struggling and unable to find my favourite song from Megaman X3, a sign that I need to go back and play it again, and at least know the stage it is from. In the meantime, this song is not bad.

The great reason I don't understand why we didn't get this game, was that it didn't hardly require any translation whatsoever.

This game also counts. Gosh, people who have only played the Gameboy Advance version are missing out. It sounds much, much better on the Super Famicom.

I have a lot more great tracks in my mind I'd like to mention. But I'll give myself a break from exhaustion and let you mention yours. Before I make too big of a wall of youtube embed.

Yay! I love when this thread gets recreated. You didn't have enough FFIV-FFVI in your original post.

EDIT: My comment is in a Pinkie Pie sandwich...

I agree with the statement that Chrono trigger need no words to defend how awesome it is. The music is what made that game as epic as it is.

Can't let this thread slip by without mentioning a few gems out there.

First some rather obscure ones....

...and then some classical choices

For all titles with a * attached to them, there exists a version completely done by an orchestra - presumably on youtube. Check them out!

Well, I was going to post music from FF4 but it looks like I got ninja'd by everyone in existence. Oops! I'll try and go a bit more obscure then.

For some reason, this one always stuck with me. I guess, despite being a bit of a metalhead, I'm a sucker for a synthesized panflute and clean bass guitar.

I can't link to it right now (no pun intended), but the 'Dark World Theme' from LoZ: aLttP has always struck a chord with me - to the extent that it's my current ringtone.

Basically almost everything, really. I miss those days. It's rare we get tunes as memorable as those nowadays.
