What do you people think is the best Sonic The Hedgehog game ever? I personally think it was Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for the Gamecube =] What do you think?

well, the third dimension hasn't been kind on sonic games, but sonic adventure 2 is brilliant nonetheless.

as for 2d sonic games, i'll go for sonic cd, or maybe sonic & knuckles

2D = Sonic The Hedgehog, the original and best! No cheap spin dash to get you out of tight spots! Marble Zone(best game music ever)!
3D = A tie between Sonic adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes. Butif the Shooting and Hunting parts didnt exist in SA2, that would win.

Sonic & Knuckles.

It had two playable characters, lock-on features which added significiantly to the length of the game, and beautiful graphics.

I've always felt wierd about those "Original 2D sonic" people. I played that one, it just felt kinda boring/frustrating. Maybe I didn't have Awesomeness turned on.

One of the first I played was Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, and I really liked that one. But it's a shame that while Shadow was such a well-made character in that one, he was thrown into later ones just for the hell of it. They don't even really explain how he could be alive.

Looking back, I sort of wonder if Sonic is trying to take himself too seriously now by involving the military and trying to make the plot semi-serious. I always thought it was cool as a kid, but now it doesn't seem to fit right.

Sorry guys but it has to Sonic 1 without a shadow of a doubt.

The Spiky One came along at a time when most games moved along at a leisurely pace. To see your character rushing across the screen at one hundred hedgehog miles an hour for the first time was a breathtaking experience and the feeling has never been bettered.

On top of this, the levels were simple yet beautifully constructed (unlike the sprawling messes that came along in the later games), the music was truly outstanding (the Starlight Zone music still ranks amongst the best videogame tracks ever) and there were none of the gimmicks that spoiled the sequels.

If you still haven't played Sonic 1 then you have missed out on one of the defining moments
in videogame history - shame on you!!!

As much fun as I had going super saiyan in Sonic 2 and beyond, I'd still have to go with Sonic 1 for overall quality over fluff. Sonic 2's halfpipe levels still haunt me.

Besides, the first Sonic wasn't only about speed, and the character was cuter.

Now, the Sonic Advance 2 and 3 are pretty, fast, the music is excellent, but they put too much emphasis on speed, and the levels are very messy. It's painfully hard to learn or even appreciate them, and I just rush through them, it's pointless.

Sonic Adventure 2 (that was the first one with tails right?) That was the best one in my opinion. Golden Sonic was probably the coolest code at the time.
