For older stuff all I can come up with at the moment is the ending theme they used for the credits in Super Mario 64:
Hmm, I never noticed this before, but every single note is off the beat. Every one. Was it like that in the game? It just sounds plain wrong...

Ironically I was going to post a big list of how much I love Koji kondo too!
It sounds the same to me; I have the soundtrack, and I just ran that quick along with it and they matched up. Ah well; I like it. XD I suppose you do have it cut it some slack though, considering it was one of the three original games the system was released with.

Most of Crisis Core's music is sort of depressing, but in a good way. Makes you remember all the people who died in that game.

I think Mass Effect 2.

That track is easily the greatest soundtrack I have ever heard.

Most 2d fighters had great music. Notable exception is found in Capcom vs. SNK 2, which, barring a couple of tunes was god-awful. Also Jared Emerson-Johnson's works in the Sam & Max games. Awesome jazzy melodies throughout.

Anything that this guy made, mostly:

I can hear you asking, "who the heck is that guy? He looks like a dull executive, what could he possibly have ever made?"

He made this:

And this:

Ladies and gentlemen, that man is Hideki Naganuma, one of the masterminds behind the OSTs for both JSR and JSRF.

I have to go with Halo. I still listen to it, and it still sends a shiver down my spine.
