Another vote here for Alice. Amazing. The toy piano added a nice touch.
Another vote for Half-Life 2.
I'm surprised no one's mentioned the Pokemon games yet. At least Red & Blue had great music.
Deus Ex had an amazing title song, and the rest of the music was atmospheric.
Max Payne had some rockin' tunes.
Kirby Super Star. Possibly the best soundtrack in a game ever.

Going to have to say Kid Icarus or Megaman 3. Both of those games have some really memorable music that in many ways is timeless. The fallout soundtrack for its atmosphere.

I also distinctly remember liking one song from Final Fantasy 10 which I can only describe as a electronic bubbling music. Track IDs appreciated.

Man, I can't believe I'm only the second person to say Frank Klepacki's music.
It made the RA games for me. I'm serious. That's the reason that I love them so much.

I thought huge number of tracks in SSBB, most of which were bearable at least, was pretty impressive.

Secret of Mana
Monkey Island
Deus Ex
Chrono Trigger
The music in Half Life was good in parts, but alot of the tension was user-created. It was at its most breathless when you run out of ammo, or run into a grenade and have to dodge combine bullets to preserve your last millimeter of health. The bit where the techno started up were the bits you knew all the enemies would come swarming out of the woodwork and got out your biggest gun as a result. Still pretty cool though.

Full Throttle - "Legacy" and "Hammer of Love"
Monkey Island series - How could anyone forget the SCUMM Bar, Largo's Theme, or "A Pirate I Was Meant to Be"?

Loved Mass Effect, Half Life series, Mega Man 3, Deus Ex, Max Payne 2, Halo Series, and Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. All superb.

Pretty much all the GTA's had good ones. IMO.

Battlefield Vietnam (specifically the ride of the valkeries booming out as you swung in low over the jungle machine guns blaring.

Akira Yamaoka's work on the Silent Hill series;
It's really cool knowing that I'm not the only one on this message board who owns all of the Silent Hill soundtracks (thats right! Even 4! Although I still need to buy Origins, those were also awesome).

But to name a different peice of work, I'd have to say Roar of the Earth. Its the OST for Shadow of the Colossus and it is amazing. Definitely right up there next to Silent Hill in my list.
I haven't actually played origins yet, mainly cos i don't own a PSP, let me know if the soundtracks good (99% chance it will be lol)

As for 'Roar of the Earth', i've only ever watched my mate play Shadow of the Colossus and i was excited because i'd never seen any game like it before so i was concentrating mainly on the sheer scale of the Colossus battles rather than the music, i'll have to check that out again methinks =]

I haven't played silent hill, but I generally like horror game style music, especially when the music score dynamically increases in intensity along with game play.

I know of one such game in recent times, and that is the pearl that is Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. I don't know who was the producer for that games ambient music and atmosphere, but he/she did a damn good job. Moreover, the soundtrack was filled to the brim with liquid awesome:

Agreed, an awesome collection of songs, also 'Ministry' writing a track specifically for the game is so rad!

Icewind Dale II. No one's said Icewind Dale II, yet. I think that music was a pleasant surprise.

Indeed. All this nostalgia makes me want to dig up some of those old albums.

Mass Effect's synth-y 80's scifi music was sweet

Morrowind had good music too

Any of you guys ever play Arcanum? It had very beautiful, soothing classical music during exploration and such.

Nothing like the main theme for God of War to get you pumped!

Toss up between Grim Fandango and Vampire: Bloodlines.

Music for both games added to the air immensely, set the mood and scene perfectly.

Hmm... well, I love everything by Sakuraba, and most work by Shimomura (Not a fan of her Rogue Galaxy style), and of course Kow Otani did an amazing job with Shadow of The Colossus. Picking just one for a favorite is really hard. However, I'm going to have to say Valkyrie Profile 2.

Super Mario Galaxy had some surprisingly amazing music, too.
