I would say they were good times during the time I went to secondary school but I would not call it the best.
My only benefit I got out of it was getting fantastic friends and a secondary school diploma other than that. nothing really viable.
When you are going through stuff that a very small percent of a student body goes through, it is really fucking annoying and depressing at times.
I would say that college is the best time of your life.

I was told this and agreed that it was bull at the time.

I look back now (I'm 33) and realise that they were right. So much so, that like my parents and teachers alike, I tell my nieces and nephews the same thing and one day will tell my kids it too.

You youngsters out there, please do try to enjoy these years.... it only gets shitter, I promise you.
I refuse to belive that, why should I?
No skin off my nose if you don't. Think though, why does virtually every single adult tell you this? There has to be a reason.... maybe we all found out the hard way and regret not enjoying those years as much as we could have? Nah, couldn't be... could it?
Im sure the kid who was bullied constantly and had suicidal thourghts wouldnt agree (no I didnt have eather of those things)

anyhow there may be truth to what you say but I dont like that mentality, high school is over for me, what should I do? shrug and say "well thats it...funs over time to be a miserable adult!" ,

screw that I say, this is my life and it is what I can make it, yes I know hard times come around and we all have to do things that we dont want to, but Im not about resign myself to (a completley false) fact the the greatest time of my life has passed

Ive never understood this Idea that my life has to follow a certain pattern (a patern set down by society) school partying work settle down and kids, yearning for my high school days, no way, the past is in the past, I can wish I did things differently all I want it wont change anything, sure its impossible to tell what I will or wont want in the future and I could completley change

to tell highschool kids that its a pointless waste of time and quite frankly the stupidest thing ever

telling highschool kids its the best time of their life is stupid and pointless
I agree, it is sad. Unfortunately it doesn't stop it being true for 99% of people in the western world. Good luck with being in that 1%, it happens to some few people out there.

As to it being defeatist by telling kids that, on this point I disagree. It's not the kind of thing I would tell to someone in college or university, because that will bring them down. But to a kid of 13 or 14 or younger that has years of school yet to enjoy, hell yeah! You're basically saying (within reason) "enjoy yourself, you have years in which to discover what is fun and you don't have the weight of mortgages and deadlines and health to worry about".

I think that it is a good thing. It has worked for thousands of years for the Japanese.

So far, being in high school right now (literally, I'm taking my 1st block class right now), it's not the best time of my life, but hell, I can't judge it until I'm older right? But seriously, I don't really like it here, but maybe it's just the school, half the teachers suck and for some reason, they've let slackers get into honors classes(I'm not trying to sound like an elitist jerk, but if you clearly don't want to learn and instead spend most of the time talking, and making the teacher yell at you, wasting the time of those who WANT to learn something from this class, why are you in it?), honestly, it's fun when I'm with my buds, but other than that, the actual school part, it isn't all that it's cracked up to be because of the occasional idiot(once again, not trying to be an elitist).
not everyone learns the same way and unless these guys make shit grades consistently id say give them a chance to prove themselves, teachers have been douches about talking in class for decades, and BLOCK scheduling doesn't help matters, whoever came up with the idea for that needs to be brutally beaten with one of if not all four of their own severed limbs.

btw its the teach who is wasting time yelling at anybody his ass is there to teach not try to govern what you guys do in the class, if those people fail to learn what he teaches then so be it but he needs to actually teach.

High school will suck balls dude that's just a fact unless you are in a tiny minority that gets through unscathed

High school is full of cliques and immature goons. College/Uni is better as you are your own person.

if by "doing it right" you mean constant partying(alcohol poisoning is always fun!) using drugs having unprotected sex that will lead to an std or a child both of which can ruin your life forever, Oooh or do you mean debasing your self and your dignity to be able to join an utterly pointless fraternity or sorority for the "status" of membership?
If you think this is what college is, then A) you've never been and B) you watch too many movies. I think you confuse "attending college" with "being stupid". They are not the same. Nothing you listed is exclusive to college, you can do all of it in high school (substituting being in a "click" with the frat, same thing).

Actually, my first year in school, my dorm room-mate thought that was what college was all about too. He flunked out after the first year. Those sorts don't last very long.

well I think the general conensus here says the college is the best time, which makes sense and no you tell a college person that it wont bring them down because they are too busy having fun partying or are studying like hell (and I bet theres alot of them that found high school hell)

I think it actaually brings high school kids down because what your saying is "its all down hill from here kid....hahahaha"

as for right now I am MUCH happyer now than I was in high school so Ive already acheived that 1%

anyway as I said before somones life is their own and yeah there is circumstance and all that but you are the main person who can make yourself happy whats the point of yearning for the past? likeleyhood is its glossed over by nostalga anyway

Yeah, and I loved high school.
But...I was the type of kid that played videogames and was the varsity quarterback and the varsity basketball player and things like that.
College was still better for me, though.

This is more of a question

were you ever told...In highschool that this would be the "best time of your life"? if not when were you told the best time of your life would be?

and I mean seriously highschool??? what blatant lies! I imagine unlike most people here I didnt find highschool particually unbearibly horrible but I certainly didnt enjoy it all that much and it was NOT the best time of my life

also I was in boarding school which may have had somthing to do with it (no matter how good it is living in any institution gets to you after a while)

in fact I found it kind of funny one woman who was filling in as one of the staff was like "ohh! I would have loved to be in boarding school! you get to hang out with all your freinds! seriously this is the best time of your life" I wonder if she would have felt the same had she actually been in boarding school for 5 years....probably, I guess it depends on personality
I've been told that a lot... honestly the only thing that could make high-school the best time of my life is walking away from graduation and putting on a pair of sunglasses while the place goes up in flames and someone gets it all on film

so yeah, I hate it too... really really hate it...

I was told that both being 13 years of age and the time spent in high school would be the two major highs of my life.

When I turned 13, everything changed. Not in a good way. I experienced proper poverty. Learned what life without electricity, running water and proper food is like, amongst other painful lessons quickly after that.

Highschool was a continuation of that, as well as being constantly bullied, and that was just by the teachers. Having no money to afford books, I was barred entry from most classes, but still managed to get the highest scores in school. Teachers weren't happy. In the end they found a solution in kicking me out for low class attendance.

Sometimes I still wonder if that was the lowest point in my life, or if it help set a pattern. I've never gone quite so far down as that ever again, but the highs have been few since having turned 13.

Once you grow older youll realize that the problems you have in highschool are irrelevant to life as a whole. When real problems begin to arise (eg. getting a degree, getting a job, keeping the job, wife, kids, economy etc) you will understand that you were living in tranquility ave during those highshcool years.

Edit: in most cases (just read the previous post) wonder why he didnt sue the crap out of that school..

Yup, secondary education is indeed well shit.

College is far, far, far better. Even though it's a million times harder.

Yeah, no.

I'm sure it was fine if you were in with a popular crowd, but plenty of people were bullied mercilessly in school, or just felt alienated in general. And maybe I'm one of those crazy people who think personal fulfillment is much more important than financial, because, you know nearly everyone (and I'm willing to bet my last penny you as well) here lives in the first world, and will never be that badly off.

i merely placed the most likely answer for "doing it right" as you put it, i am under no illusions as to what college is as yeah i am attending, and it sucks ass most of the time especially when the teachers have little to no knowledge of what they are supposed to be teaching, the only reason they are teaching it is they were a free body to do so

It's kind of like a big slice of bland sandwich, and I can't think of any other way to describe it. Maybe it's because I am not getting invited to every party that people are throwing, nor is anyone throwing the leafy greens my way, but I would just say that for the most part high school is just sort of boring.

High school was horrible! Nothing but standardized-everything and swarms of teenage hormones.

I was told college would be the best time of my life - and it is!
-Everyone's on the same level
-Being smart increases reputation
-Make your own schedule!
-And unlike high school it's actually useful!

High school's been great.
I go to boarding school here in sweden. I hang out with my friends, drink with them, smoke with them. I have an amazing girlfriend, :D . I do well in school, I learn interesting tings.....
+ i stay away from my parents, who are great people, but this prepares me for real life.
I dunno, i'm finding it pretty great.

High school was pretty bad. I enjoyed the lessons, hated the free time. Makes me sound like such a nerd, but I could manipulate lessons to suit my own ends - I even allowed myself the odd beating just so I could get lunch early. The queues were ridiculous, and by the time the average student got to the counter, everything was cold. If you were late, you got nothing.
However, if you were early, you got all the good stuff. And you could eat and be out before the idiots came in with their food fights. I swung it so me and a few friends got out early.

Then college came. College was seriously awesome. Girls, which previously avoided me, suddenly decided they wanted to be around me. People that never would have taken me seriously were coming to me for help. And when I said that rumours were going to stop, they stopped. I miss college. College was awesome.
