The original MH on the PS2 got a paltry 4/10 from Game Informer, I'm still playing it now. Of course, I haven't been able to play a lot of the recent ones because Capcom hates any system I've got (they release a 360-looking controller for the Wii for MH Tri for Christ's sake :[ ).
On the reverse side, the reviews said Clive Barker's Jericho was crap and I said, "meh, I'll give it a rent." I was so wrong, couldn't stand that game.

Most of them.

I very rarely listen to reviews. If I want to play a game, darn it, I'm going to play it, whether or not other people liked it. xD It seems that most of my top favorite games got poor to mediocre reviews anyways, so usually, I take it the opposite way. If reviews say it's bad, I'll probably like it more than that. It usually works (usually).
what games? just asking. :) cause same for me, some of my all time favorite dont get good reviews.
Well, not all that popular but my top faves that got "meh" or bad reviews are Rule of Rose, Drakengard, and Shadow Hearts. :)

Most of the time, I'm concerned when a game gets really good scores. Most of the really popular games I have played tend to actually be less fun then the more niche titles I regularly play. It's really noticeable when I try to play a massively popular "game-of-the-year" like Fallout 3 and get completely turned off by the pitifully short story, annoying glitches, dull graphics, and slow pacing. Then I pick up Mercenaries 2, a game that got fairly low scores and is considered by many to be a glitchy mess, for about half the cost of Fallout and loved it. While it does have it's share of problems, it is far more fun than Fallout 3 could ever hope to be.

For the most part, I don't care in the least how highly rated a game is. If it's not fun, I won't play it.

I find their JRPG reviews so inaccurate that I rarely even look at them. Usually they complain of the game being "dated" and turn based battles are said to be "behind the times". Since I love classic rpgs and grew up with them neither of these bother me, in fact its part of the reason I buy and love the games.
Likewise, I have played JRPGs that got horrible scores but still provided some of the most fun I have had gaming. It's really sad when a great game gets points docked because it seems "dated". Unless a game's poor graphics affect gameplay, there should be no reason to dock points. Good graphics should be the icing on an engaging story and fun battle mechanic, and any developer that is happy to overlook gameplay issues because of good graphics is not getting any business from me...

Between having options for playing demos and doing a fair bit of research I don't tend to have problems with games I've bought. Having said that, I've had people recommend, or more to the point, insist I get a game they 'know' I'll enjoy, more because they want to play co-op online and that has caused me some regret and the need to change my gamertag, but otherwise, I've not had a problem with most games I've bought.

Though I bought Jericho based on others recommendations and found myself falling asleep during it.

Project Sylpheed, the review when it came out gave it a 6/10, playable but not great, I must have bought it 2 years later and still loved it, seriously, it's been one of my best gaming purchases.

Many of Yahtzees.
Only review sight I tend to trust is Gametrailers, and I don't look at the end score.
I've never disagreed with them yet. Every game they said bad about that I played, I agreed completely.

Of course. He is funny as hell, but a terrible reviewer.
At least the games he does like are good. I was surprised he liked Zack and Wiki, but happy about it since it's the only game that's made me feel like my Wii was worth buying.

I liked Drawn to Life, and, while the drawing part of it may not be perfect, I don't think most reviewers gave it enough credit.

I can't really think of any times...

But to be honest this brings up something a little bit related. As much as I love Zero Punctuation it has had a very irritating adverse side effect, suddenly every user made review has to try and be just like yahtzee. I mean user reviews are never all that reliable but you could still glean information from them, but recently every new released game's user reviews are all just people trying way to hard to be funny while slamming a game for arbitrary, subjective, irrelevant and at times completely made up reasons.

Disgaea 3.
While I might sound like some fanboy if you've read any of my recent posts, I've recently hit the real grind of the game and I've been spending a lot of time with it.(about 70 hours at this point)

Well, I never even heard of the IGN review before reading about it on TvTropes, but it's just horrible. Well, horrible isn't exactly the correct word, pathetic would be more appropriate. I mean, a new game in the Disgaea series is "too much like the older games", the battle system is "outdated", camera issues that show the reviewer never turned the camera, it does not mention any of the mechanics changed from the previous games and the other half of the review is just whining about the sprite-based graphics.

I actually disliked Borderlands even though every review I read for it was positive and then they reviewed Bioshock 2 poorly and I actually kind of liked that game. More than Borderlands anyways...

Yahtzees review of FF13. He had no right to review that game. He went into it already hating it, and he was determined to hate it no matter what. And playing the first 3 hours of a 40+ hour game is obviously not going to reveal the entire story. thats like watching the first 20 minutes of Lord of the Rings and complaining that nothing has happened yet. I loved FF13, and was close on offended by that stupid review.

Vanille was fine. The only thing that bothered me was that she couldn't seem to decide what accent she wanted for the first half of the game. Everytime she spoke she had a different accent.

As far as characters, the only person who I realy disliked was Vaan(Hope). Why they decided to include him, when it was so clear that everyone hated him in FF12 as well, I have no idea.
