Best Tower Defense Game

Hey Guys,

I'm sure this has been covered before, but I really like Defense Grid, and I'm trying to find out if there are any tower defense titles that are as good or better. We just had a little girl last month, and games like these are great for me right now, since I can pause and get up to tend to her without much trouble. As much as I miss Battlefield, I'll be doing more casual gaming until the baby leaves me with more free time.

Side note, any parents of babies out there? How do you work in your game time?

If you want to spend 15 bucks, Orcs Must Die! is a great TD game.

Anomaly Earthzone is a refreshing approach. You have to keep your convoy alive by using appropriate routes and powerups as opposed to trying to kill the creeps with towers.

I'll cast my vote in for Dungeon Defenders. It's actually the only Tower Defense game I think i've played but hot diggity damn did I play the crap out of it. Until TOR came along that is

If you want to spend 15 bucks, Orcs Must Die! is a great TD game.

Nothing more needs to be said here, but I'll try anyway. Great game, great sense of humour - only the lack of co-op mode lets it down. If you don't buy this game OP, you at least owe it to yourself to download the free trial.

Orcs Must Die is a lot of fun, though hardly a traditional TD. I hear Dungeon Defenders is good. I would advise you check out Sanctum. A lot of fun, much more TD than the other two I mentioned, you have to build out a maze, place towers on top of your maze, and of course you can shoot the fuck out of the monsters yourself. Especially fun with some friends, but I do sometimes fire it up for a solo game. Also, it has text-to-chat.

i dont know much about any TDs that you have to buy, but ive played some flash TDs. MY personal favorite is kingdom rush i just love the way it looks and what each tower says when you buy and upgrade them. some maps even have special structures or units.

another decent flash TD is dont touch my gems but i dont think it holds a candle to kingdom rush

A couple recommendations:

* Kongregate's Tower Defense category [http://www.kongregate.com/tower-defense-games]: This is one of the few genres where there's practically no quality gap between free and pay.
* a sequel that came out recently [http://www.kongregate.com/games/Ninjakiwi/bloons-tower-defense-4], but I think this one is still a bit better.
* Sanctum [http://www.fileplanet.com/113770/0/0/0/1/section/Demos]: Combination first person shooter and tower defense. I'll admit I only played the demo before its release, but it seemed to have the right stuff. I'll probably check it out again soon.
* Plants vs. Zombies [http://www.popcap.com/all-games/plants-vs-zombies/]: Another alternative take on the idea. It's a great example of a well-planned, thoroughly balanced game.

I thought I'd have more recommendations, but I'm not as fascinated with the genre as I used to be.

If you want a tough free one, try out the Stalingrad Tower Defense games. At least, tehy are tough before you realize the build orders can be applied to every map.

I've only played the South Park TD game and Plants vs Zombies. I enjoyed them both.

My favorite would have to be the Gemcraft series of games. GemCraft Labyrinth is pretty good. I like it. It's the most recent one, and it fixes what I saw as problems with the previous installments. It's also free. For most of the talents. You can unlock the full game for $5, but you don't really need to.

I've always enjoyed Bloons so I'd try Bloons Tower Defense 4. Plants vs Zombies is good too but a little different.

Tower Wars maps for BMFE2/ROTWK. So much fun, especially if you play goblins Shelob tunneling into the rut and Drogoth swooping around makes up for the fact gobbies have shitty archers.

Dungeon Defenders is indeed one of the nicest and renewing games of the tower defence genre. It is great fun to multiplay (with your girlfriend)!!!!

I believe you mean Anomaly: Warzone Earth, which I agree is a pretty decent game. I suppose the best description is "reverse tower defense".
