Garth Marenghi's Darkplace. Is just pure awesome, and it has various actors from the IT Crowd including Matt Berry and Richard Aoyade as well as guest appearances of Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt from the Mighty Boosh. If you like it, the spin off series Man To Man With Dean Learner is awesome as well.

My reaction when I see no one has mentioned the IT Crowd yet . . .
I think you can consider the IT Crowd as mainstream.

Yes, Minister. It's intelligent, hilarious & timeless
Ninja'd.

I loved Yes, Minister (and Yes, Prime Minister).

I also quite enjoyed A Bit of Fry and Laurie and Blackadder, though I don't think either of them were really underground.

Community is the funniest show that is still getting new episodes IMO. Its about a bunch of misfits that are taking classes at community college for various reasons. Hilarious show, and the only show I've ever seen where I like all of the characters.

Here, I'll let it speak for itself

They're sort of underground, especially if you are used to a diet of american sitcoms.

I also loved 'extras'

Trailer Park Boys.

Has to be, although I am a big fan of Spaced, Mighty Boosh, Father Ted, Peep Show, Fawlty Towers, Porridge, Big Bang Theory (despite the annoying canned laughter - I prefer shows that don't need it).

And the worst...

The Drunk and on Drugs Happy Funtime Hour (or something like that)
Which sadly is what the Trailer Park Boys are upto these days, pretty weird, pretty cheap, a long way from TPB.
Noel Fieldings Luxury Comedy get's a dishonarable mention as well, that is NO mighty boosh!

Of all time? Not sure...

Currently watching:
- How I Met Your Mother (Neil Patrick Harris as Barney Stinson steals the show)
- The Big Bang Theory (Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper steals the show here)

Both are pretty funny.

Monty Python's Flying Circus. Followed by Upright Citizen's Brigade. Black Adder is good as well.

And I just have to say it, Two and a Half Men is the worst piece of shit excuse for comedy I've ever seen. It's bad, it's awful, it should not even be considered a show, let alone a comedy. It's bad, and if you like it, you are a bad person.

Well it was either this or ANOTHER Mass Effect thread, but then i realized i am a mature and reasonable adult who's tantrums should be thrown in private and not on the interwebz.

So, i need a new tv series. just got done watching Friends, and Peep Show, and Community.
i imagine by this point i have seen most of the mainstream stuff, so im looking for the underground gems....

Can you recommend me a great series, Escapee's? perhaps with a few of the reasons why you enjoyed it?

and i promise to keep my Bioware rage off of this site for at least anothe......OH GOD, MORIDAN, WHHHYYY?????!!!?
How about It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia?

Archer is also another great series that has action and comedy...

Curb Your enthusiasm, this restored my faith in American TV comedy after Arrested Development got cancelled.

J.B Smoove is one of THE funniest men of ALL TIME!

Oh and the show is made all the more awesome as it is all improvised, pure comedy genius!

Arrested Development.
This, without a doubt. I'm sure there's a lot of other hilarious shows that I haven't seen, but among the ones I have, Arrested Development is the funniest by a large margin.
