Strange Journey, a game flying so low under the radar that it could club baby seals from the window.Think Pokemon except with a much darker twist and you collect demons and deites instead of Pokemon.Easily one of the DS's best RPGs
does the combat take place in first person like in dragon quest? thats a turn off for me but im very intrigued regardless.
Yeah the combat and dungeon crawling are both in first person.
okay one more question for you. Ive played disgaea(sp?) and wasnt really a fan, do you think i would like this game.
What didn't you like about Disgaea? that would help me give you a better answer.
it was too hard for me. I liked ff tactics for the ds but disgaea was just too much of a beat down.
Ok gonna be upfront then:This game doesn't shit around,it can be diffcult at times but as long as you keep at it,try different fusions and use decent strategies you should be fine. It also plays nothing like Tactics or Disgaea in case we had some miscommunication somewhere.
I think the best way to describe it would be as a first person dungeon crawler, turn-based battles, a 'dark' storyline, and a sort of pokemon-esque party system. (Enemies can be convinced to join your team, then leveled up and fused, etc.)

TWEWW was obvious? Huh.

Anyway, If you liked that, I've got one for you - Contact. I don't think many people have heard of it, but it's a pretty good game. A little different, but hey.

Okay, first of all I'd like to say that no way did TWEWY go under the radar. I have never met anyone who plays DS RPGs and didn't know about it.

And now for my actual response... Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure!
The only other person I know who played this game only did so because I wouldn't shut up about it, and has since thanked me profusely. It's a fantastic blend of puzzle and action-platformer gameplay (as in the top screen is an action platformer and the bottom is a puzzle) with a great visual aesthetic and sense of humor. It's also tough as nails, especially if you beat it and start again on Gentleman Mode. I think a lot of people probably assumed it would be a dumbed-down kiddy platformer because of the art style, but it's a truly fantastic game and it even has a tea powered robot suit.

Yeah that pretty much sums it up.If you want something more Disgaea like the Devil Survivor(same series Shin Megami Tensei) is a good choice though like Strange journey it can be pretty difficult.

I personally am not finding it too difficult so far (about 28 hours in), having played both Demon's Souls and several other games in the SMT series before (Nocturne, Persona 3&4 and Digital Devil Saga 1&2), but I definately agree that it's a lot more challenging than your standard RPG. Especially to new players of the series.

I think I got it confused with a different game in the series but im on the right track now. I will probably check it out later in the year. I have a feeling once the 3ds hits quality new quality ds games are going to disappear, on the bright side if it takes off the prices on the used market will plummet.
